Tax Principal / Partner (Senior Manager ready for the step-up)

Location: Albuquerque, NM / Santa Fe, NM (or regional hubs) — fully on-site

The opportunity

Career Staffing Talent is retained by a top-tier national public accounting firm to rebuild the tax leadership of its Southwest region. Due to an unprecedented wave of partner retirements, this role offers the incredibly rare opportunity to walk directly into a massive, active book of business from day one.

We are seeking an established Principal or a highly experienced Tax Senior Manager to step into immediate workflow and ownership. There is absolutely no requirement to bring a portable book—you will be handed existing revenue and tasked with managing and retaining it.

What you will own

• Inherit and direct a substantial, active tax portfolio (upwards of $1.5M in revenue/hundreds of clients) across the New Mexico and West Texas markets.

• Serve as the true face-to-face strategic advisor for your clients, utilizing a highly adaptive personality to have complex, sometimes difficult, tax conversations.

• Act as the go-to technical authority for the region, possessing the deep tax expertise required to immediately field complex issues for newly onboarded and legacy clients.

• Leverage a regional, shared-pool talent structure of over 180 staff and seniors, managing workflow seamlessly across multiple local offices without the constraints of rigid, siloed teams.

• Drive year-end tax planning and full-cycle execution, ensuring a smooth transition of legacy clients leading up to the busy season.

What we are screening for

• Active CPA license (non-negotiable).

• 8+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience (we are open to strong Senior Managers, but you must have seasoned, face-to-face client advisory experience).

• Exceptional emotional intelligence and client relationship skills—specifically, the ability to "read a room" and adapt your communication style to diverse personalities.

• A low-ego, collaborative leadership style; arrogance is a strict disqualifier for this team.

• Ability to work fully on-site in an Albuquerque or Santa Fe hub. (We are open to relocation only if you have a strong, demonstrable personal tie/nexus to the Southwest).
