Senior Product Manager @ F500 InsureTech helping users find financial freedom

Location: hybrid in NYC, onsite 3x/week (Tues-Thurs)

About the company:

Picture this: a “heart-led” and “empathy-focused” company that’s pushing the boundaries of tech and innovation, always going for the next big thing…who is ALSO a venerable, 200-year-old, F100 InsureTech company, with incredible resources, culture, and growth! It’s the best of both worlds.

Diversity and humanity are deeply rooted values in their company culture, and they care deeply about their employees and their user base. They have world-class benefits - including great health coverage, 6 month parental leave, and a pension, to name a few highlights. They have been named one of Fortune’s “World’s Most Admired Companies”, are in the top 50 companies in Forbes’ 2024 “America’s Best Employers for Diversity”, and received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s “2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index”.

As the company is owned by the policyowners themselves - not by shareholders! - they don’t answer to Wall Street. So they can truly take their time to invest in long-term projects that will fundamentally benefit their millions of users, as opposed to just getting things out the door for short-term profits. So it’s a really wonderful headspace to create in!

They are in the midst of massive growth and expansion, both building out a bevy of 0 to 1 products as well as innovating on their legacy products, so it’s a great time to get in the door to build impactful, high-visibility products at a massive scale.

About the role:

We’re looking for an experienced and strategic Senior Product Manager to join our client’s growing Product Management team, specifically in their financial health and wellness area. This role leads the digital product strategy, roadmap, and delivery for a portfolio of marketing, content, and educationally-driven experiences for their users.

What’s cool about it? It’s a relatively nascent area for the company, meaning that you can bring your 0 to 1 build skills to the table to create impact at a massive scale.

There’s a ton of ideation you’ll do in this role and be building these tools from the ground up - so, they’re looking for someone who really wants to dig in, understand customer needs and chart a course for how to serve those challenges.

It’s an ideal role for someone who enjoys developing end-to-end products while contributing to the growth of the Product function within Marketing—one of the company’s most dynamic and innovative teams. Leveraging a modern tech stack, you’ll engage in core Product work while helping to shape Product process and best practices, ie: standardizing strategy documentation and refining the handling of key artifacts such as roadmaps.

Products under your purview include both b2c and b2b products, ie: online financial education websites, online courses, educational seminars and workshops, financial assessments, calculators and other tools empowering people to learn about financial wellness and put them into action so they can embrace a better future for themselves.

You’ll also be helping to evolve the company’s own website (a huge platform unto itself!). And, agents will be empowered to grow their small businesses while helping their clients forge their way to a better financial future at the same time - it’s very win/win!

Any sort of Growth work you’ve done will be well-placed here. In tandem with building the products themselves, you’ll be helping to create and launch the tools that drive users to these resources, increasing customer acquisition and retention.

Along the way, you’ll be inspiring teams, stakeholders, and company leaders around its purpose—so being a strong voice for Product overall and a leader for this product area in particular will be key to driving its success!

It’s less of a technical Sr PM role - instead, you’ll work with product owners in Tech who will be doing the heavy-lifting tech and SQL work, and you’ll collaborate with them on their work around user stories, testing, and releases.

What’s the right background for this role? Senior PMs with an EdTech, InsureTech / retirement planning, FinTech / financial services, or any other sort of background from a regulated industry would be ideal, as well as people who have a mission-oriented mindset and want to fundamentally help educate millions of people.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead strategic product initiatives: You’ll oversee a product portfolio and its strategies and roadmaps and lead it to growth and success.
  • Proactively lead initiatives and collaborations: Lead cross-functional internal teams, and partner closely with design, technology, and external vendors.
  • Manage product features through their entire lifecycle: Bring products and features to life, from ideation and high-level requirements to delivery and iteration, as well as the marketing tools that drive people to them.
  • Be a trusted expert in your field: Analyze market trends, customer research, competitive research, product performance metrics, and other insights to identify opportunities and create business cases.
  • Track progress to ensure we’re always improving: Define and track OKRs to continually refine their products.
  • Ensure they’re delivering projects efficiently: Develop and manage timelines, project plans, and roadmaps.
  • Establish the discipline in this team: Contribute to the product management practice and ways of working, as well as mentor junior product managers.
  • Champion the vision: Manage stakeholders and effectively communicate product vision across the organization.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Marketing, Business, Design, Psychology, Computer Science, or other related discipline. Equivalent practical experience is also relevant.
  • 5-8+ years of experience in product management, with a track record of delivering successful digital products and meaningful outcomes and deep knowledge of product management practices and artifacts.
  • Agile experience: A track record of delivering in an Agile environment and a commitment to Agile principles.
  • Superior organizational skills: Including experience with workflow and roadmap tools.
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and internal teams, external partners, and facilitate alignment on complex interests.

And if you have any of this, we really want to hear from you:

  • Experience in the fintech industry, life insurance, retirement, education technology, or another highly regulated industry
  • Educational technology or industries focused on purpose-driven work and financial / retirement planning, financial wellness, or employee benefits
  • Experience with sales and prospecting

Salary Range:  $130,000 - $162,500 base + annual bonus incentive

Generous benefits include 401K match, pension, career development, tuition reimbursement, fertility benefits, parental benefits whether through birth, adoption, foster care, or surrogacy, wellness benefits including onsite amenities, and more.
