Overview

Our client is a boutique, global brand and product innovation agency with a warm and approachable culture and European-roots; they’re currently building out a more significant presence in the USA with a UX + Product Design services bent.

They partner with ambitious companies, founders, and leadership teams to define new ventures, digital products, and customer experiences. Their work sits at the intersection of strategy, brand, product, and experience design, often helping clients move from early vision and market opportunity into concrete product and experience direction.

They are looking for a freelance Senior / Lead Product Designer to support a fast-moving 0→1 product initiative for a new AI-powered beauty + wellness subscription native mobile app.

This is a highly strategic, hands-on product definition role. This designer will not only be highly strategic and visionary, but also with strong design / Figma skills.

You will be responsible for helping define the product experience itself: the MVP, features, flows, product principles, user journeys, decision frameworks, and early wireframes.

The focus is not visual branding or final UI polish; the agency’s brand team is already leading brand strategy, logo, and visual identity.

The ideal person has shaped high-caliber, native mobile products from the ground up, and can bring strong product taste, strategic clarity, and client-facing leadership to an ambiguous, high-potential opportunity.

AI experience is important: you’ve worked on AI‑powered products, and can translate AI capabilities and constraints into product strategy, flows, and features. You communicate about AI clearly and confidently with clients, internal stakeholders, and technical teams.

Candidates who have a mix of large-company experience managing multiple stakeholders, as well as Founding Product Designer startup experience is ideal, but also very open to agency-side experience for someone extremely client-facing and has run workshops, can present to senior leadership, etc.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead 0→1 product definition, translating an early vision into clear MVP scope, product principles, features, flows, and decision frameworks.
  • Shape the end-to-end native mobile experience across onboarding, AI-powered analysis, recommendations, subscription, progress tracking, and ongoing engagement.
  • Create wireframes, flows, and prototypes in Figma at multiple fidelities to explore options quickly and align stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with agency, client, AI, technical, strategy, and brand teams to bring structure to ambiguous product conversations.
  • Lead and participate in workshops, presentations, product reviews, and working sessions.
  • Help establish the UX blueprint for the next phase of UI and design system work.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong portfolio examples that show high-caliber product thinking and world-class UX.
  • Senior / Lead-level Product Designer with strong 0→1 product definition experience.
  • Consumer-facing, native iOS / Android mobile experience
  • Experience with AI-powered, AI-enabled, or AI-adjacent product experiences is important..
  • Strong product strategy instincts, systems thinking, and ability to define MVP scope, features, flows, and frameworks.
  • Excellent Figma fluency and ability to move quickly through multiple directions.
  • Strong client-facing presence, communication skills, and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent taste and judgment around what good product looks like, even if visual UI craft is not the main focus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with personalization, recommendations, subscription-based services, DTC / b2c.
  • Beauty, wellness, healthcare, or consumer health experience.
  • Subscription or DTC product experience.
  • East Coast / NYC or West Coast location.

Not the Right Fit For

  • Designers who are primarily visual/UI craft specialists without strong product definition experience.
  • Designers whose work is mostly surface-level app design without deeper product thinking.
  • Designers who need a highly defined brief or prefer to work independently and reveal finished work later.
  • Designers who are not comfortable playing a lead role in client-facing workshops, presentations, and senior stakeholder conversations.

Interview Process

The first step will be an NDA-covered, 1-hour conversation with our client’s Head of Design, to go over details of the project, as well as conduct a deep dive into a relevant portfolio case study. A second conversation with additional colleagues may be requested.
