About the company:

Are you passionate about dogs and want the very best for them, AND want to revolutionize a $100 billion dollar industry at the same time? Read on!

Our client is the #1 fastest-growing pet health service company in the US, born from a mission to change the landscape of pet health by radically improving the $100 billion pet food market. They replace bulk bags of highly-processed pellets with a personalized subscription service of healthy, freshly-made dog food, balanced by top veterinary nutritionists, directly to customers’ doors. Their ultimate goal is to create innovative, honest, and delightful experiences across all aspects of pet care.

To date, they’ve delivered hundreds of millions of meals nationwide, and their company has raised over $150M in funding to help them build a company as healthy as the dogs they serve. You’ll be instrumental in helping provide peace of mind to their human customers and much-needed change to the way people feed and care for their beloved pets.

They’re category-breakers, in that instead of looking to see what their competitors are doing, they are squarely focused on creating best-in-class, perhaps-never-been-done-before design that sets a new standard of what can be done through design. Their designers are highly strategic - how can we simplify this flow and maximize sign ups? How can we most efficiently take care of edge cases?

About their culture:

Culture is hugely important to them, and they’re looking for someone likeminded: entrepreneurial, highly collaborative, open to experimentation, quick on their feet, and constantly thinking about their customers (dogs + humans)’s needs at every turn.

You’d report into their VP of Design, who we’ve known for many years, and we can attest that he is hands-down one of the most beloved and talented design leaders we’ve had the pleasure of knowing. He’s compassionate, kind, fosters awesome collaboration, has excellent design craft himself, and knows how to expertly support and guide each individual member of his team. We know many designers who have reported into him and they are all big, big fans!

They have a hybrid onsite work model of 2-3x/week in the office, which is very flexible. But trust us; you'll WANT to go into the office! They have a beautiful, modern-designed building in downtown NYC, with dogs abound! There's always a few furry friends roaming around and charming everyone they meet, and many desks have a dog bed under them.

Needless to say, the people who work there are big animal lovers! While you don't have to be a pet owner yourself, you like being around dogs, and enjoy giving ear scritches to a furry friend when they come to visit you at your desk.

About the role:

You’ll be the fulltime Lead Product Designer overseeing Acquisition, Growth and Onboarding, and you’ll partner closely with the other Lead PD overseeing Retention and beyond. Your areas are all mission critical parts of the user experience that are key in new user satisfaction and overall company growth. You’ll be educating users about the product and helping them sign up for a service tailored to their and their pets’ unique needs.

The role is truly hybrid - ie, someone who's both a formidable UX thinker who can think through complex flows, as well as someone with strong Visual UI acumen who can help elevate their look + feel.

While you might not be an expert in UX Research, you’ve had exposure to it, perhaps even co-run sessions, but at minimum, you’ve spoken to users directly to get feedback, and you’re open to beefing up your Research skills on the job.

They're seeking someone with Growth experience in a b2c environment - ie, A/B testing on not just micro-experiments, but full end to end systems - as well as a proven history in increasing customer acquisition and engagement. You ideally have metrics and success stories to back this up.

You’ll create design solutions based on data validated through testing, as well as provide invaluable mentorship to other designers, helping elevate the team's skills in both UX and UI. You’ll also co-own the Design System with the other Lead PD, which is in a great place for growth and evolution!

While this isn’t a management role per se, you *will* mentor 2 Senior Product Designers, both who are talented and eager for a strong mentor. Past mentoring experience is a big plus!

About you:

  • You have 7+ years experience in product design, specifically in B2C, preferably in a fast-paced startup environment
  • You are a full stack, hands-on designer, savvy with both UX and UI, with some exposure / desire to do UX Research as well
  • You have some Growth (or relevant) experience
  • You think in terms of experiments, platforms, and systems
  • You embrace testing and experimentation, operate in a scientific method, and have experience making data-driven design decisions
  • You’re excited about tackling complex problems and information hierarchies and creating simple and elegant experiences
  • You are keenly aware of the impact of every pixel and word on the screen while also being able to zoom out and think strategically and holistically
  • You have a strong entrepreneurial drive and bias towards action
  • You can function independently and in a team environment with excellent collaboration skills, expert knowledge, and a low ego
  • You are skilled in Figma and excited to learn and adopt the latest design tools
  • You have mentoring experience and enjoy taking Senior Product Designers under your wing
  • You love animals, and would thrive in a dog-friendly office!

Ideally, you have experience with:

  • Subscription services that combine digital experiences with analog delivery
  • B2C products that can be highly personalized with complex flows (could be complex ecommerce, etc)
  • Experience working with Design Systems and a keen eye for upleveling and maintaining quality throughout the product
