Our client, a thriving, established Benefits / Payroll tech company focused on empowering SMBs, is hiring a Product Designer for their Shared Experiences / Core Platform area.
This is a great role for a strong midlevel Product Designer who wants to grow inside a mature, supportive Design org while working on complex, high-impact platform surfaces used across the logged-in product experience.
You’ll join a thoughtful 50+ person Experience Design org led by one of our favorite VP Design leaders. He’s highly respected, deeply human, sharp, funny, and serious about building a design culture where craft, systems thinking, collaboration, and real cross-functional partnership matter.
About the Company:
Chances are, if you've worked for a startup or an established small-to-medium-sized business, you're probably already familiar with our client!
They're a late-stage Benefits / Payroll platform tech company in an exciting stage of substantial but responsible growth, with great name recognition. They provide SMBs, including many in the tech industry, high-quality, enterprise-level health insurance, payroll, payments, compliance, and HR tools that smaller businesses and their employees wouldn’t otherwise have access to.
They’re known for a standout culture rooted in honesty, openness, integrity, friendliness, no-ego, and inclusion.
“Collaboration” isn’t just a word on a cheesy poster in a hallway. It represents their values at their core!
They've embraced AI in an intelligent way, both in terms of their work process, and the products they're creating - so you'll be able to continue to learn and grow your AI skills here.
Their cred:
Fortune magazine has named them to its Best Workplaces in New York list multiple times, and they’re also on BuiltIn’s list of NYC Best Large Companies to Work For.
They’ve been in business for 13+ years and are an important player in the HR Tech industry. They’ve secured significant funding from top VCs including Bain, Thrive, FirstMark Capital, and Union Square Ventures.
They’ve expanded into global markets, grown consistently and intelligently year over year, and are adding a broader suite of products to their already well-known core platform.
What’s happening there in Design?
They’ve have their first-ever VP Experience Design at the helm for a few years now, and we’ve known him for years and absolutely trust him. His arrival was a strong signal of the company’s growing investment in Design and respect for the discipline.
We’ve helped him grow his teams over the years and have seen firsthand how much his designers adore him. He’s empathic, strategic, supersmart, and a real thought leader in the space. Plus, he has a great sense of humor, which makes for a super enjoyable work vibe!
This is a company where Design is increasingly focused on connected product experiences: how employers, employees, internal teams, partners, and systems all work together across a complex HR / benefits / payroll ecosystem.
It’s a great environment for designers who like thoughtful product craft, systems thinking, complex workflows, information architecture, and building useful tools that help real businesses get important work done.
The role:
Product Designer, Shared Experiences / Core Platform
The Shared Experiences team owns the core platform surfaces that help users orient themselves, find what matters, and take action across the logged-in product experience.
In plain English: this team designs the connective tissue of the platform.
You’ll work on experiences like the home page, calendar, document center, reports and analytics, company settings, mobile app patterns, and shared product components that other teams build on top of.
These are the places where HR admins and employees go to understand what’s happening, what needs attention, what deadlines are coming up, and what actions they need to take.
The team’s work has a particular emphasis on the admin experience: helping HR admins start their day, track deadlines, understand key events, manage documents, review reports, configure settings, and keep their businesses running smoothly.
This is platform-level product design. It is less about linear onboarding or front-door growth flows, and more about designing complex, reusable, high-visibility experiences that need to work across multiple user types, product areas, and business needs.
