Lead UX Designer (1 year freelance) - major hospital system redesign w/boutique agency (100% Remote, USA)
New York City, NY
Apply for this job

Location: Remote in USA; must be able to attend daily 9:15am ET standups

Our client is an East Coast-based boutique digital agency engaged in a complete redesign of a big-name hospital system's website and supporting sites, and they're looking for a seasoned Lead UX Designer to head up the project.

They are rolling out new websites for this hospital system across departments, secondary hospitals, and education systems. This is a complex rollout that involves navigation, integrating comprehensive navigation schemas across stakeholders and subgroups, and requires design consistency. There may be an opportunity to lead the client’s digital improvement plan after the initial launch.

As you can imagine, it's a heavy content / CMS / navigation / IA sort of play, and they need someone seasoned who can also help project manage the project and keep things on track, and is an excellent communicator with academics and doctors, who are the stakeholders on the project.

You may be paired with someone more visual / production-artist sort of person at some point in the project, so this gig has a VERY strong UX design focus.

They want someone who preferably has some agency experience, is super hands on, and has a good leadership presence too. A healthcare background is helpful but not required.

Logistics:

  • Starts ASAP
  • Approx. 1 year - subject to change
  • 40 hrs/week on average (some might be lighter or heavier)
  • You can be based anywhere in the USA; East Coast hours preferred & must attend daily 9:15am ET stand up
  • Rate is $90-100/hr via 1099, commensurate with experience

You have…

  • Strong UX skills and the ability to partner with visual designers
  • Experience working with HEAVY content driven websites
  • Experience with IA skills in the mix to help organize it all - own the sitemap, redesign navigation, chart out a plan, etc.
  • Experience with complex navigation / wayfinding / search within a content-rich environment
  • Experience collaborating closely with a variety of high-level stakeholders, including C-suite executives and scientists / doctors / academics
  • Experience being client-facing and can present your work both internally and to clients
  • Experience with Drupal or equivalent CMS
  • Some agency experience is strongly preferred but not required.

Nice to haves…

  • Experience working with academics or healthcare providers is a plus
