Associate/Junior Flight Dynamics Engineer
Location: Central Boulder, CO | Workplace: 100% Onsite
Salary: $90,000 – $105,000
Launch your career at the intersection of applied orbital mechanics and software
development—and learn from an elite team of astrodynamics experts within a highly profitable,
self-funded 40-person aerospace company in Boulder.
Our client is looking for an ambitious, intellectually curious junior or recent graduate who wants
to bridge the gap between complex academic mathematics and production-grade software
applications. If you want to bypass the sterile, siloed environment of massive aerospace
defense conglomerates and immediately affect live satellite operations, this is your path.
The Opportunity
Working alongside senior technical mentors, you will help maintain and upgrade core orbital
mechanics applications. You will receive extensive exposure to live mission data streams, learn
how cloud infrastructure orchestrates automated flight paths, and build out high-fidelity physics
tools. This team prides itself on an absolute open-door culture—if you are proactive, you will
have direct access to senior leadership and technical decision-makers from day one.
What You’ll Do
- Write, test, and optimize automated software scripts in MATLAB and Python to support
- orbit determination and state estimation workflows.
- Build data validation pipelines to analyze incoming satellite telemetry and GPS signals,
- identifying tracking errors or data gaps.
- Assist in generating daily flight dynamics products and processing close-approach
- collision alerts.
- Maintain and run simulations for maneuver detection, error propagation, and orbital
- perturbation math.
- Train and qualify under senior mentorship to join the shared standby rotation, learning
- real-time operations troubleshooting where any active hours worked are balanced
- directly against your standard work week.
- Proactively contribute to development retrospectives—highlighting what is working, what and where workflows can be streamlined.
What You Bring
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science,
- or Applied Mathematics from a top-tier space research program (e.g., CU Boulder).
- The Hybrid Skillset: A deep academic understanding of orbital mechanics and satellite
- navigation, paired with a massive affinity for software engineering (a minor or double
- major in Computer Science or significant scripting depth is highly prized).
- Programming Literacy: Proven ability to build mathematical simulations, toolsets, or
- visualizers using Python (NumPy/SciPy) or MATLAB.
- Technical Mindset: Basic familiarity with Git version control, Linux command-line
- environments, and statistical probability concepts.
- Pragmatic Drive: Exceptional self-motivation, high accountability, and an open,
- transparent communication style.
What Is Offered
- Competitive entry-level base salary of $90,000 – $105,000.
- Direct access to senior mentors and rapid technical development across a true full-stack
- aerospace domain.
- Participation in a balanced operational standby cycle designed to prioritize standard 40-
- hour work weeks.
- 3 weeks of open PTO + 10 paid government holidays.
- Complete medical, dental, and vision packages.
- 401(k) matching program at 3%.
