Lead a High-Performing Truck & Trailer Service Operation
We are seeking an experienced Service Manager to oversee a busy truck and trailer service department in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong leader with a background in heavy truck, trailer, fleet, or heavy equipment maintenance who is passionate about developing people, improving operational performance, and delivering exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall performance of the Service Department, including shop operations, technician productivity, customer satisfaction, employee development, and financial results. This role requires a hands-on leader who can effectively balance customer needs, shop efficiency, and team performance in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technicians, service advisors, and support staff.
- Oversee daily service department operations, workflow, and scheduling.
- Monitor technician productivity, efficiency, and quality of work.
- Ensure repairs are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment.
- Participate in recruiting, onboarding, and employee development initiatives.
Customer Service
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service.
- Address and resolve customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Communicate repair timelines, estimates, and service recommendations clearly and effectively.
- Ensure customers receive a consistently positive service experience.
Administrative & Financial Management
- Oversee work order management, estimates, invoicing, and job costing.
- Collaborate with service advisors and estimators to maximize efficiency and profitability.
- Monitor departmental performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Complete required reports, evaluations, and administrative documentation.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Parts, Sales, and Operations teams to support business objectives.
- Assist other locations and departments when required.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence across the organization.
Qualifications
- Licensed Heavy Truck and Trailer Technician (preferred) or equivalent industry experience.
- Previous management or supervisory experience within a truck, trailer, fleet, or heavy equipment service environment.
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive performance in a production-focused operation.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with service management systems and shop operations.
