Maintenance Manager – Manufacturing

Location: Marathon, WI

Schedule: 1st Shift | 7:00 AM–3:00 PM

Salary: $75,000–$90,000 annually, depending on experience

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance operation at a busy manufacturing facility in the Marathon, WI area.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who knows how to build and develop a strong maintenance team while improving equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, and overall plant uptime.

The Maintenance Manager will oversee maintenance personnel, planning, parts and inventory, CMMS processes, contractors, capital projects, and equipment repairs. You'll also work closely with plant leadership to identify reliability issues and implement long-term solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the plant's maintenance department and day-to-day maintenance activities
• Hire, train, develop, and retain skilled maintenance personnel
• Manage employee performance, coaching, disciplinary actions, and annual reviews
• Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs
• Reduce unplanned downtime and improve overall equipment reliability
• Manage the site's CMMS, including work orders, preventive maintenance, equipment records, and parts inventory
• Support maintenance planning, scheduling, and parts kitting for planned and opportunity maintenance
• Maintain an effective parts and storeroom system to ensure critical components are available
• Lead root cause analysis efforts for recurring equipment failures
• Manage and participate in equipment repairs and rebuilds as needed
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
• Support repairs and rebuilds involving pellet mills, conveyors, screws/augers, gearboxes, chains, motors, and related production equipment
• Develop capital improvement requests, obtain contractor bids, and oversee outside contractors
• Drive continuous improvement through Maintenance Excellence and reliability initiatives
• Ensure maintenance activities follow established safety practices, including LOTO, confined space, and electrical safety procedures
• Provide regular maintenance, safety, project, and equipment reliability updates to the Plant Manager
• Assist with overall plant leadership and serve as a backup to the Plant Manager when required

What We're Looking For

• Technical degree in mechanical/electrical maintenance or equivalent hands-on industrial experience
• Previous maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting background
• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
• Experience developing time-based and condition-based maintenance routines
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
• Experience planning and implementing maintenance or capital projects
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance projects in a fast-paced operation

Preferred Experience

• PLC troubleshooting knowledge
• Predictive maintenance tools such as vibration monitoring, thermography, and oil analysis
• TPM program development or implementation
• Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• ERP systems such as Sage
• Experience managing contractors and equipment rebuild projects

Work Environment

This is not a desk-only management position. The Maintenance Manager will regularly work throughout the manufacturing facility, supporting technicians, inspecting equipment, troubleshooting problems, and overseeing repairs and improvement projects.

The position also includes office responsibilities related to maintenance planning, scheduling, CMMS management, budgeting, reporting, and project coordination.

Candidates should be comfortable occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, kneeling or crouching to inspect equipment, working around industrial machinery, and wearing required PPE.
