Heavy Equipment Mechanic – In-House / Shop

Location: Woodbridge, Ontario

Position Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: In-House / Shop-Based

Pay: $35.00–$55.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and licensing

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join a busy, well-established in-house service team in Woodbridge, Ontario. This is a full-time, shop-based position focused on diagnosing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining a diverse range of heavy construction, paving, roadbuilding, municipal, and compacting equipment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dependable mechanic who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting and wants a stable shop environment with consistent work. You will work closely with the Service Manager, Parts Department, and other technicians to ensure equipment is repaired properly, safely, and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Perform repairs on paving equipment, roadbuilding equipment, compactors, rollers, pavers, brooms, hot boxes, and related machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, steering, and other mechanical components.
  • Complete preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and scheduled repairs.
  • Prepare equipment for customer delivery, rental, sale, demonstration, or return to service.
  • Complete equipment inspections and identify required parts, repairs, and potential safety concerns.
  • Support warranty repairs, machine setup, and pre-delivery inspections as required.
  • Coordinate with the Service Manager and Parts Department to keep repairs moving efficiently.
  • Complete work orders, service reports, time entries, parts usage, and inspection documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
  • Assist with moving, loading, unloading, or staging equipment around the shop and yard when required.
  • Communicate repair status, parts requirements, priorities, and timelines with the service team.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Shop Mechanic, Field Service Technician, or similar position.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and mechanical repairs.
  • Experience working with construction, paving, roadbuilding, municipal, or compacting equipment is strongly preferred.
  • 421A Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or 310T Truck and Coach Technician licence is considered an asset; equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented shop.
  • Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record preferred.
  • Comfortable completing work orders and documentation using phones, tablets, computers, or service software.
  • Reliable, organized, safety-conscious, and able to manage changing repair priorities.

Work Environment

This is primarily an in-house, shop-based position in Woodbridge, Ontario. The role focuses on diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, inspections, and equipment preparation within the shop and yard. Occasional local equipment movement or customer-related support may be required, but this is not intended to be a mobile field-service position.
