General Manager – Commercial Fleet & Diesel Service Operations

Location: Alabama

Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus

About the Opportunity

A well-established and growing commercial fleet maintenance organization is seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee operations at one of its flagship service locations. This confidential leadership opportunity is ideal for an experienced operational leader with a strong background in diesel, truck, fleet maintenance, tire service, or heavy equipment repair.

This role will provide day-to-day leadership for a high-volume service operation consisting of both in-shop and mobile service teams, while supporting operational consistency across multiple locations. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who understands shop operations, has earned credibility with technicians, and can immediately make a positive impact.

Position Summary

The General Manager will lead approximately 35–40 employees, including technicians, supervisors, service advisors, and operational staff. This position is responsible for driving operational excellence, improving accountability, developing leaders, and ensuring exceptional customer service while overseeing the overall performance of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop approximately 35–40 shop and field employees.
  • Oversee all daily service operations for both in-shop and mobile service teams.
  • Create accountability, consistency, and structure across all departments.
  • Ensure efficient scheduling, workflow, productivity, labor utilization, and repair quality.
  • Build strong relationships with technicians and frontline leaders through visible, hands-on leadership.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and develop employees while promoting a positive culture.
  • Utilize shop management software and operational reporting tools to improve performance.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators including:
  • Technician productivity
  • Labor efficiency
  • Turnaround times
  • Customer satisfaction
  • Safety performance
  • Financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify operational improvements and implement best practices.
  • Foster collaboration and consistency across multiple service locations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience within one or more of the following industries:
  • Commercial Fleet Maintenance
  • Diesel Repair
  • Truck Service
  • Tire Service
  • Heavy Equipment
  • Industrial Equipment
  • Previous experience as a:
  • General Manager
  • Operations Manager
  • Service Manager
  • Shop Manager
  • Branch Manager
  • Experience managing teams of 30–40+ employees.
  • Strong understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance operations and repair workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead experienced technicians and frontline supervisors.
  • Strong business acumen with experience managing operational metrics and KPIs.
  • Comfortable using shop management software, reporting systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience

Experience working for commercial fleet maintenance companies, truck dealerships, heavy equipment dealerships, tire service organizations, or other high-volume service operations is highly preferred.
