Bus Mechanic / Diesel Technician

Columbus, OH | $30–$40+/hr | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

If you’re a diesel tech who knows how to diagnose a problem, fix it right, and doesn’t need someone looking over your shoulder every five minutes, this could be a good shop for you.

We’re looking for a Bus Mechanic / Diesel Technician to maintain a private fleet of Prevost motorcoaches, with a lot of Volvo power. This is fleet maintenance — PMs, inspections, brakes, suspension, electrical, A/C, emissions, and general repairs

that keep the coaches safe and ready to roll.

You won’t be spending your days doing in-frame engine work. The engine work is more on the bolt-on side — water pumps, turbos, and similar repairs.

The biggest thing we’re looking for is someone who can diagnose. Electrical and A/C experience is especially important. If you can chase down an electrical issue or get an A/C system blowing cold again, you’ll be a valuable part of the shop.

What You’ll Work On

  • Preventive maintenance and inspections on Prevost motorcoaches
  • Volvo diesel systems and components
  • Brakes, suspension, steering, cooling, and other chassis systems
  • Electrical diagnostics and repairs
  • A/C and HVAC diagnostics and repair
  • Emissions systems and troubleshooting
  • Allison transmissions and related maintenance
  • Bolt-on engine repairs including water pumps, turbos, and similar components
  • Diagnose problems, make the repair, and get the coach back on the road

What We’re Looking For

  • Diesel/heavy-duty mechanic experience
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with electrical systems
  • Strong A/C experience is a big plus
  • Experience with diesel emissions systems
  • Bus or motorcoach experience is great, but not required
  • Truck, trailer, reefer, or other heavy-duty fleet experience can translate very well
  • Prevost, Volvo, Allison, Detroit, or similar experience is a plus
  • Own your tools
  • CDL is a plus and can put you at the higher end of the pay range

Why This Shop?

This isn’t a flat-rate operation where you’re being pushed to get coaches in and out as fast as possible.

The goal is to fix it right.

You’ll have the time to properly diagnose problems and make the repair without someone constantly rushing you out the door. If you run into something you haven’t seen before, ask questions and figure it out — the owner is hands-on, involved with the operation, and available when you need him.

Pay & Schedule

  • $30–$40+/hr, depending on experience
  • Additional flexibility for the right technician
  • Higher pay potential for candidates with a CDL
  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Full-time, primarily 40-hour workweeks
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off

Bus or motorcoach experience is definitely welcome, but we’re more interested in finding a good mechanic than checking a specific box on a resume. If you’ve been working on trucks, trailers, reefers, or other heavy equipment and you’re strong on diagnostics, electrical, and A/C, we’d like to talk.
