Automotive Mechanic / Technician

Norfolk, VA | $31–$35/hr + Overtime | Monday–Friday | No Weekends

If you’re a solid automotive tech who likes fixing cars instead of chasing flat-rate hours, this is a shop worth checking out.

We’re looking for a B-level Automotive Technician to join a long-established, busy shop in Norfolk. There’s no shortage of work — the shop has 150 vehicles in reconditioning, plus customer and post-sale warranty work. The goal isn’t to sell hours or pressure you to upsell work. They just want good mechanics who can diagnose problems, turn wrenches and get cars back on the road.

What you’ll be doing

• Diagnose and repair a wide range of makes and models — Honda, Nissan, GM and other common commuter vehicles
• Suspension, steering, brakes, electrical, drivability and general mechanical repairs
• Component-level repairs
• Engine/transmission R&R is available if you’re capable, but it’s not a requirement
• Handle jobs that typically run around 3–10 book hours
• Use professional diagnostic equipment, including Autel scanners
• Work efficiently and keep cars moving without cutting corners

This is a full-service repair operation, but no body work and only limited dealer-level flashing. The team is already well-rounded — they’re adding another tech because they simply need more manpower.

What’s in it for you

• $31–$35/hr, depending on experience
• Paid hourly — NOT flat rate
• Time-and-a-half after 40 hours
• Most techs average around 47 hours/week, with plenty of OT available if you want it
• Some guys work 40, others work 50–55 — your choice
• Monday–Friday, roughly 8 AM–5 PM
• No weekends
• Some flexibility with start/end times as long as you work your 9-hour shift
• 1 week of vacation after your first year
• Paid holidays

The average tech is putting in around 47 hours a week, which puts this role in the $80K–$100K/year range depending on hours and experience.

• This is an old-school operation that takes care of its people. They’ve been around for three decades and have excellent long-term retention. It’s not a revolving-door shop, and there’s no politics, drama or games.
