Heavy Equipment Mechanic – Shop or Field

Byron Center, MI | $30–$42+/hr | Full-Time

Machines break. Somebody has to figure out why.

We’re looking for Heavy Equipment Mechanics / Technicians for both shop or field service in Byron Center. This is a good fit for a tech who likes working with their hands, enjoys troubleshooting and takes some pride in handing a machine back to a customer knowing it’s fixed right.

We’re open to all experience levels. If your background is heavy equipment, great. If you’re a diesel or automotive mechanic ready to get into construction equipment, we can train you. If you’re already strong with hydraulics, electrical diagnostics and major repairs, even better.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • PMs, inspections and routine maintenance
  • Diesel engine and powertrain repairs
  • Hydraulic diagnostics and repairs
  • Electrical troubleshooting
  • Mechanical diagnostics and repair
  • Component removal and installation
  • Attachments, accessories and aftermarket kits
  • Welding and fabrication as needed
  • Test equipment after repairs
  • Diagnose the problem and get the machine back to work

You’ll see a mix of work. Some jobs are straightforward maintenance. Others require you to grab the meter, follow the hydraulic circuit or dig into a machine until you find the actual problem.

What We Need

  • Mechanical experience in heavy equipment, diesel, automotive, ag, industrial or similar equipment
  • Solid mechanical aptitude
  • Hydraulic/electrical diagnostic experience is a plus
  • Good troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable with hand and power tools
  • Professional tool set
  • Valid driver’s license
  • CDL is not required
  • Reliable, safety-minded and willing to learn

Entry-level and experienced techs are both encouraged to apply. There’s paid training for mechanics who have the fundamentals but need to learn the equipment.

Shop & Field Opportunities

  • We’re specifically looking for both shop and field technicians.
  • Field techs get out to customer jobsites in a service truck and handle equipment where it sits. The service truck does not require a CDL. CDL trucks are available if you already hold one.
  • When things slow down in the field, you can bring it back to the shop and keep turning wrenches.

Schedule & Pay

  • Monday–Friday
  • 7:30 AM–5:00 PM
  • Average 45–50 hours/week
  • Some Saturdays, but they’re rare and avoided whenever possible
  • $30–$42+/hr depending on experience
  • Flexible for the right technician
  • Overtime when needed

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Company uniforms
  • Paid on-the-job and factory training
  • Opportunities to advance

If you’re the kind of mechanic who doesn’t quit when the first diagnosis is wrong, likes figuring out how things work and takes pride in fixing equipment right, we should talk.
