Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection for projects across Canada in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and design sketches from conceptual design through construction documentation.
- Develop and produce mechanical design drawings using Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and civil disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations using company-provided software tools.
- Support the preparation of energy models, energy modelling reports, and compliance documentation.
- Conduct field surveys, site visits, and site reviews, and assist with the preparation of record drawings.
- Review shop drawings and contractor submittals to ensure compliance with design intent and construction documents.
- Work independently on assigned scopes with minimal supervision, while collaborating with project managers and discipline leads.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of project deliverables in accordance with internal design standards.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams to meet project schedules, deadlines, and deliverable requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of workflows, design standards, and project execution processes.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of experience in mechanical building design within a consulting engineering environment.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent education.
- Proven experience in HVAC and plumbing system design for building projects.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD is required.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems including HVAC, heating, cooling, and plumbing.
- Solid knowledge of building science, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and airflow fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of relevant standards and codes including NFPA, NECB, ASHRAE, and local building and plumbing codes.
- Ability to interpret and coordinate architectural, structural, electrical, and civil drawings.
- Experience producing drawing packages and design documentation to support engineering teams.
- Familiarity with energy modelling tools such as IES Virtual Environment.
- Experience with cooling load calculation software such as HAP or Trace700.
- Exposure to energy modelling programs including EE4, ComCheck, HOT2000, eQuest, DesignBuilder, OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, IES, or PHPP.
- Knowledge of LEED requirements is considered an asset.
Salary: $70,000-$85,000 (negotiable)
