About Our Client:

Our client is a growing metal fabricator and powder coating business in the Fraser Valley. We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee daily operations across a multi-divisional manufacturing firm.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on operational leader who can ensure production efficiency, maintain quality standards, and coordinate workflows across departments while supporting the company’s expansion into proprietary product manufacturing. This role focuses on optimizing processes, improving productivity, and ensuring seamless execution across all operational functions.

 

Responsibilities:


1. Operational Execution & Process Improvement

  • Support the transition from a 100% “make-to-order” job shop to a hybrid model that includes proprietary product manufacturing by ensuring operational readiness.
  • Coordinate production planning, scheduling, and workflow across departments to maintain on-time delivery and efficient throughput.
  • Implement and maintain Lean Manufacturing practices to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
  • Work closely with engineering and leadership teams to support product prototyping and pilot production runs.


2. Multi-Divisional Operations Management


Metal Fabrication

  • Oversee daily shop operations including laser cutting, forming, machining, and welding.
  • Monitor production schedules and ensure quality and throughput targets are achieved.


Powder Coating

  • Manage coating line scheduling, quality control, and finishing standards.
  • Coordinate internal production priorities and external customer jobs.


Transportation & Logistics

  • Coordinate fleet scheduling, deliveries, and material movement between divisions.
  • Ensure efficient logistics operations to support production timelines.


3. Performance & Resource Management


Track operational KPIs including:

  • Production throughput
  • Labor efficiency
  • On-time delivery
  • Equipment utilization (OEE)


Support cost management initiatives by improving resource allocation, reducing waste, and optimizing workflows.

Assist senior leadership with operational reporting and performance analysis.


4. Team Leadership & Workforce Development

  • Supervise and support production teams across fabrication, coating, and logistics operations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Provide coaching and training to improve employee productivity and skill development.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

Experience

  • 7–10+ years in manufacturing or production operations, preferably in metal fabrication and industrial coatings environments.

Operational Expertise

  • Experience managing production schedules, shop floor operations, and multi-department coordination.

Systems Knowledge

  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems for production planning, job tracking, and resource management.

Process Improvement

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.

Business Understanding

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing cost structures including labor efficiency, material usage, and production costs.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, or Business preferred.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification considered an asset.
