About the client:

Our client is a well-established, national distributor and importer of premium architectural building products with multiple branches across Western Canada and long-standing relationships with designers, architects, contractors, home builders, and dealers.


They are looking for an Assistant Controller to support the finance function as part of a collaborative, growing finance team. The objective is to help strengthen internal processes, reporting, and controls as the organization continues to evolve. The successful candidate will bring analytical capabilities, hands-on accounting experience, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement within a dynamic environment.


This is an in-office, full-time, permanent position based in Calgary, AB, offering significant opportunities to move up within the organization.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP
  • Analyze cost trends and investigate variances to support operational decision-making
  • Perform account reconciliations and detailed account analyses to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Support day-to-day accounting operations to maintain timely and reliable financial results
  • Assist with coordination and oversight of accounting functions across the organization
  • Prepare and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and government reporting requirements
  • Assist with the development of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning
  • Familiar with accounting tools to maintain accurate financial records
  • Maintain well-organized support for audits, month-end and year-end working papers
  • Review financial records, systems, and processes to ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting standards
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership on complex financial and operational matters
  • Provide support for transactional accounting where needed (A/P, A/R, payroll support, document management, etc.)


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • CPA designation or active progress toward completion an asset
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting roles
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Construction or project-based accounting experience is considered an asset
  • Strong analytical, technical, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Solid understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and budgeting principles
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable working in a team-oriented environment


Compensation:

  • $80,000-90,000 annual base salary
