Job Summary:


The Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) plays a critical role in supporting the dentist in delivering exceptional patient care. This position is responsible for managing the full patient experience — from arrival to treatment completion — ensuring a warm, efficient, and professional environment in line with FDIC clinical standards. The CDA supports clinical efficiency, accurate record keeping, and billing while building lasting patient relationships and promoting return visits and positive reviews.



Key Responsibilities:


Patient Experience & Chairside Assistance

  • Welcome and seat patients in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Provide comfort measures such as blankets, music, or TV to ease anxiety.
  • Communicate with patients effectively to alleviate dental anxiety and answer basic treatment questions.
  • Obtain and relay patients’ chief concerns to the dentist.
  • Build rapport with patients and make social notes for continuity of care.
  • Explain procedures using radiographs or photos in an accessible and empathetic way.
  • Assist dentists chairside during all procedures, anticipating needs and maintaining treatment efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of the clinical schedule and keep the dentist on time.


Clinical Operations & Infection Control

  • Prepare, clean, and restock operatories and clinical areas to be fully equipped for all treatments.
  • Sterilize and prepare instruments and trays according to FDIC protocols and individual dentist preferences.
  • Ensure strict infection control standards are maintained.
  • Monitor sterilization equipment functionality and perform routine maintenance.


Documentation & Charting

  • Complete accurate clinical charting in Tracker, including treatment notes, medications, allergies, odontograms, and progress notes.
  • Upload x-rays, scans, consent forms, and photographic records.
  • Maintain detailed and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • Prepare and submit lab and Invisalign cases and follow up as needed.
  • Update routing slips at the start and end of each appointment and coordinate with the front desk team.


Treatment & Post-Care

  • Administer topical anesthetic gels and assist with dental dams and Invisalign attachments.
  • Perform Zoom Whitening and take orthodontic records (x-rays, iTero scans, etc.).
  • Ensure post-operative calls are completed and documented.
  • Support the front desk in scheduling follow-ups and treatment plans.
  • Follow up on lab cases and confirm their arrival before patient appointments.
  • Prepare prescription forms for doctor review and scanning.


Team Collaboration

  • Assist fellow CDAs, hygienists, and dentists when needed.
  • Train and support new team members and doctors on protocols and materials.
  • Participate in CDA team meetings and take minutes when assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with front desk and hygiene departments to ensure seamless patient care.


Inventory & Ordering

  • Conduct weekly inventory checks and place orders per FDIC guidelines.
  • Reconcile supplier deliveries and verify invoice accuracy before approval.
  • Monitor prices and supplier promotions to optimize supply costs.


End-of-Day Duties

  • Sterilize instruments and ensure handpieces are processed.
  • Restock operatories with essentials (e.g., gauze, suction tips, anesthetics).
  • Power down all equipment (x-ray, suction, compressor, etc.).
  • Clean and disinfect rooms and sterilization areas.
  • Perform weekly maintenance such as trap cleaning and line flushing.


Sterilization Duties

  • Ensure all instruments are properly sterilized and ready for use.
  • Maintain sterilization logs and equipment.
  • Support team members in sterilization tasks during downtime.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Certification
  • Valid and current license to practice as a CDA
  • Knowledge and experience using Tracker Dental Software
  • Minimum [Insert #] years of experience as a CDA preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Annual renewal)
  • Completion of ongoing Continuing Education (CE) as required
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
