About the client:
Our client is a well-established construction equipment rental provider across Canada. Due to company’s expansion, they are adding a Fleet Manager who will be responsible for the overall management of the company’s equipment fleet, including acquisition, lifecycle planning, maintenance coordination, and disposition. As the subject-matter expert across assigned equipment categories, the Fleet Manager ensures the fleet is well-matched to customer needs, operational requirements, and market conditions. Working closely with Operations, Finance, Sales, and Branch leadership, the Fleet Manager develops and executes fleet plans that support growth, reliability, safety, and profitability across the business.
Please note: this role can be based in Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton) or Dieppe, NB.
Responsibilities:
Fleet Planning & Equipment Strategy
· Develop and execute annual and multi-year fleet plans aligned with branch needs and market demand.
· Evaluate and recommend equipment makes/models based on safety, reliability, utilization, maintenance requirements, and resale value.
· Maintain an appropriate mix of new and used equipment.
· Establish equipment replacement guidelines based on age, hours, condition, and repair history.
Supplier, OEM & Used Equipment Management
· Manage relationships with OEMs, dealers, and suppliers.
· Negotiate purchasing programs, pricing, warranty coverage, parts availability, and support terms.
· Monitor supplier performance and manage equipment concentration risk.
· Lead sourcing and evaluation of used equipment, including refurbishment and acquisition approval criteria.
· Manage equipment disposition, including timing, channels, and coordination with resale partners.
Maintenance, Performance & Systems
· Work with Operations and Branch teams to align maintenance priorities with availability targets.
· Monitor maintenance trends and recurring issues to inform fleet decisions.
· Track key fleet performance indicators such as utilization, availability, maintenance cost, and fleet age.
· Ensure accurate fleet data in ERP and fleet management systems.
· Support improvements in fleet reporting, data quality, and visibility.
Cross-Functional Support
· Support Sales and Marketing with fleet capabilities, equipment information, and new product introductions.
· Coordinate internal training related to new equipment and operational best practices.
· Provide guidance to Branch Managers to ensure consistent fleet standards across locations.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
· 5+ years of experience in fleet management, sourcing, or equipment category management.
· Equipment rental industry experience preferred.
· Hands-on experience with equipment acquisition, maintenance planning, and disposition.
· Comfortable working across multiple branches and functions.
· Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Practical, solutions-oriented mindset with strong judgment.
· Comfortable working with ERP systems, reporting tools, and data.
· Organized, collaborative, and able to influence without direct authority.
Compensation:
· $140,000-160,000 base salary
· 15% bonus
