Position Summary 

The Accountant/Bookkeeper is responsible for managing the full finance function for both the non-profit association and its related for-profit event rental operations. This is a hands-on role combining day-to-day transactional accounting with higher-level financial reporting, compliance, and operational oversight. The position requires a strong operational mindset, particularly in non-profit, retail, event-based revenue, ticketing, and cash management environments. The Senior Accountant ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains strong internal controls, and supports the Board with timely and reliable financial information. 

 

Key Responsibilities 


Full-Cycle Accounting 

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable 
  • Perform bank, credit card, and clearing account reconciliations 
  • Maintain general ledger and prepare journal entries 
  • Manage inter-entity transactions and reconciliations 
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes 


Retail & Event Financial Operations 

  • Reconcile POS systems and online ticketing platforms 
  • Monitor and reconcile event cash floats and deposits 
  • Prepare event settlement reports and revenue summaries 
  • Track deferred revenue and event-related liabilities 
  • Support inventory tracking where applicable 


Payroll & Compliance 

  • Process payroll and related remittances 
  • Prepare T4s and year-end payroll reporting 
  • Track and support GST filings 
  • Monitor grant revenues and restricted funds 
  • Administer debenture interest calculations and tracking 
  • Ensure charitable receipting compliance  


Financial Reporting & Oversight 

  • Prepare monthly financial statements 
  • Support quarterly board reporting 
  • Assist with budgeting and cash flow forecasting 
  • Prepare working papers for annual review engagement 
  • Liaise with external accountants as required 


Internal Controls & Administration 

  • Maintain and strengthen financial control procedures 
  • Document processes and maintain organized digital records 
  • Support policy development related to finance and cash handling 
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational decisions 

 

Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience 
  • Strong full-cycle accounting experience in non-profit sector
  • Experience in retail, event-based, or multi-entity environments preferred 
  • Knowledge of GST, payroll compliance, and financial reporting standards 
  • Certificate or diploma in Accounting required
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software - QuickBooks and Excel 
  • Strong reconciliation and analytical skills
