About Our Client

They are seeking a Financial Controller who will be responsible for the financial integrity of the company while providing leadership over accounting, reporting, internal controls, and financial analytics. The successful candidate will design systems, establish controls, and drive decision-making through meaningful financial insight.


This is an in-office role based in Surrey, BC.


Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership & Governance

  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian GAAP and tax regulations
  • Act as senior financial advisor to ownership
  • Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and external advisors

 

Operational & Financial Controls

  • Design and enforce internal financial controls across job costing, purchasing, billing, and AR/AP
  • Establish approval workflows and segregation of duties
  • Identify financial risks, inefficiencies, and leakage
  • Create standardized SOPs to support growth and consistency


Project & Job Cost Accounting

  • Lead project-based accounting for construction contracts
  • Implement accurate job costing for labour, materials, subcontractors, and overhead
  • Monitor margins in real time and flag variances
  • Support project managers with forecasting and cost control


KPI Development & Financial Analytics

  • Design and implement KPIs including gross margin, labour efficiency, WIP accuracy, AR aging, and cash flow
  • Build dashboards and reporting tools for leadership
  • Translate financial data into actionable insights


Cash Flow & Strategic Planning

  • Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital
  • Support bonding, credit facilities, and lender reporting
  • Build financial models for growth and capital planning
  • Stress-test financial and risk scenarios


Team Leadership & Systems

  • Lead and mentor accounting staff
  • Improve ERP and accounting systems
  • Drive automation and process efficiency


Qualifications:

  • CPA designation preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience
  • Strong construction or project-based accounting background
  • Deep understanding of job costing and WIP
  • Proven experience building controls and KPIs


Compensation:

  • $110,000-140,000 base salary
  • Discretionary bonus
