Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized instruction to students with special needs in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students.
• Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to support positive student behavior.
• Collaborate with other members of the educational team, including special education coordinators, general education teachers, and related service providers.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed to ensure academic and behavioral success.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and goals.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance and participation.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge of best practices in special education.

Qualifications:

• New York State teaching certification in Special Education (or eligibility for certification).
• Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a school setting.
• Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to meeting the individual needs of students.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues.
• Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for students with disabilities.
