Salary Range: $90,000 – $130,000

Work Schedule: Onsite, 5 days per week

Role Overview

The vCIO serves as a trusted executive-level advisor to assigned clients, partnering closely with key decision-makers to guide long-term technology strategy and investment. This role focuses on aligning technology with business goals through strategic planning, budgeting, and roadmap development.


Successful vCIOs build strong relationships, deliver confident guidance, and ensure clients receive consistent, reliable technology solutions that support growth, security, and operational success.


Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with executive-level client decision-makers
  • Develop a deep understanding of each client’s business goals, challenges, and compliance or regulatory requirements
  • Act as the client advocate internally to prioritize actions that best serve client needs
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by recommending technology solutions aligned with business objectives
  • Lead client contract renewals and identify opportunities to expand service scope
  • Clearly communicate technology risks and liabilities, documenting client decisions when necessary
  • Respond to client communications within the vCIO scope and coordinate with internal teams as needed


Technology Roadmap & Budgeting

  • Review audits, assessments, feedback, evaluations, and standards alignment to understand each client’s current state
  • Develop and maintain long-term technology roadmaps and IT budgets
  • Review roadmaps with clients and guide solution selection aligned with preferred standards and best practices
  • Support forecasting, prioritization, renewals, and delivery of technology solutions
  • Assist with onboarding new clients and setting expectations with executive stakeholders


Client Meetings & Strategic Planning

  • Schedule, prepare, and lead regular client meetings based on an established cadence
  • Present roadmap updates, progress reports, and strategic recommendations
  • Guide discussions around business outcomes, risks, and next steps
  • Secure client approval and alignment on initiatives and future investments
  • Help clients understand how further alignment with recommended solutions improves business outcomes


Technology Awareness & Alignment

  • Maintain a strong understanding of supported technology solutions and internal standards
  • Monitor client alignment with standards and identify gaps or improvement opportunities
  • Identify emerging technology needs through client interaction and internal collaboration
  • Maintain industry awareness to provide informed guidance on technology investment decisions


Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate documentation in internal systems
  • Support clear role definition and expectations internally and with clients
  • Complete administrative tasks such as timesheets, training, and required meetings
  • Collaborate with internal teams and third-party providers to deliver exceptional service
  • Act as an intermediary and trusted advisor between operational teams and clients
  • Travel as needed for client meetings, special events, or strategic engagements


Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Consultative selling approach with the ability to recommend additional IT services
  • Strong organizational, time management, presentation, and customer service skills


Experience & Education

  • 10+ years of professional business experience
  • Prior experience as a vCIO, Technical Account Manager, or within a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Relevant certifications (ITIL, Microsoft MCP, etc.) are a plus

  • Travel Requirements: Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required; ability to travel overnight and occasionally on weekends
  • Background Checks: Must pass criminal and DMV background checks and meet CJIS requirements post-employment
