Lead MSP Project Engineer

Employment Type: Full-Time

Industry: Managed Services Provider (MSP)


Salary: $100,000 - $110,000


Work Environment & Location Requirement:

  • Hybrid schedule
  • Candidates must be within approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour of the office for team meetings and collaboration
  • Expected onsite 2 days per week
  • Must be available to be onsite or near client sites during go-lives for triage and support


On-Call Requirements

  • On-call rotation: 1 week at a time every 12 weeks
  • Overtime compensation provided for on-call work

The ideal candidate brings strong MSP experience, deep technical expertise, polished communication skills, and the ability to lead projects and engineers in compliance-driven environments where accountability, accuracy, and execution quality are critical.


Required Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of overall IT experience
  • 5+ years in an MSP or managed services environment
  • 2+ years leading or executing infrastructure/cloud projects


Strong experience with:

  • Microsoft 365
  • Azure
  • Windows Server
  • Active Directory
  • Networking technologies
  • Hands-on virtualization experience:
  • VMware or Hyper-V
  • PowerShell scripting and automation experience
  • Experience with PSA/RMM tools such as:
  • ConnectWise
  • Autotask
  • Datto
  • Kaseya
  • N-able
  • Security+ or equivalent security certification required
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills


What You’ll Do

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and modernization projects from kickoff through completion
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, scope, and timelines
  • Communicate project updates, risks, and outcomes to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Conduct project reviews and ensure strong client satisfaction throughout delivery

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Serve as the technical lead for the project engineering team
  • Mentor and guide engineers during project implementation and escalations
  • Delegate tasks and coordinate resources effectively
  • Promote accountability, collaboration, and professional growth across the team

Process Improvement & Operations

  • Improve project delivery workflows and engineering efficiency
  • Develop standards, documentation, and implementation best practices
  • Identify recurring issues and implement scalable solutions
  • Contribute to automation, standardization, and operational maturity initiatives


Technical Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and support:

  • Networking and virtualization platforms
  • Cybersecurity solutions
  • Configure and troubleshoot:
  • Firewalls
  • VPNs
  • Wireless infrastructure
  • Hybrid cloud environments
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery solutions:
  • Datto
  • Veeam
  • Azure Backup
  • Develop PowerShell scripts and automation workflows
  • Produce technical documentation, diagrams, and implementation plans
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex technical challenges


Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications (AZ-104, AZ-500, MS-102, etc.)
  • Cisco, VMware, or cybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CEH, etc.)
  • PMP, CAPM, Prince2, or ITIL certifications
  • Experience in compliance-driven environments:
  • HIPAA
  • PCI
  • SOC 2
  • CMMC
  • NIST


Familiarity with:

  • Zero Trust architecture
  • AI-driven IT operations
  • Microsoft Copilot
  • Power Automate
  • Experience building scalable service delivery processes and operational frameworks
