Senior Fire Protection Engineer

Overview:

The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will lead the design and coordination of fire protection systems for multi-discipline projects. This role involves creating comprehensive fire protection packages, overseeing life safety evaluations, managing construction administration, and helping grow the fire protection engineering team in Baltimore.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Coordination
  • Lead design for fire protection systems including wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and foam/water systems.
  • Manage fire water infrastructure, including storage tanks, fire pumps, and distribution piping.
  • Design outdoor fire suppression (monitors, spray systems) and addressable/non-addressable fire alarm systems.
  • Oversee releasing systems for pre-action, foam/water, and clean agent systems.
  • Evaluation & Calculations
  • Conduct fire protection calculations, including hydraulic analysis, battery, and voltage drop calculations.
  • Evaluate building life safety requirements such as construction type, egress, and smoke management systems.
  • Construction Administration
  • Coordinate with field personnel to address design-related installation issues.
  • Review contractor drawings and calculations, perform field inspections, and test fire protection systems.
  • Client & Business Development
  • Build relationships with clients and develop new business opportunities.
  • Manage sales and marketing efforts, identify key pursuits, and meet revenue and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Project Management
  • Develop cost proposals, manage project budgets, and track performance.
  • Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and provide leadership and guidance to the team.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of design experience (Master’s degree may substitute for one year).
  • Skills:
  • Proficient in design tools (hydraulic calculation software, AutoCAD/Revit, Excel, Word).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Licenses & Clearances:
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Fire Protection required.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain access authorization for various client facilities (DOE, DOS, aerospace, military, etc.).
  • Preferences: Experience with military standards.
