Job Purpose
Responsible for leading, managing, procuring, growing and executing the efforts of the Commissioning
Department that presently conducts Commissioning (Cx) services to Mechanical (HVAC), Electrical, and
Plumbing (MEP) systems on a variety of projects and facility types including commercial, industrial,
governmental, institutional, infrastructure, healthcare, apartments, educational, and recreational
buildings. Projects will implement processes as defined in ASHRAE 0 and 1 commissioning process
guidelines. Projects will support or may include LEED Cx efforts, AEGB Cx requirements and IECC minimum
Cx. Tasks performed by the commissioning team include new construction and renovation commissioning
for MEP systems, retro-commissioning for existing facilities, energy studies, energy modeling,
measurement verification (for some projects) as well as ongoing commissioning where requested.
Responsible for growing the commissioning department. The potential candidate will be a “market
leader”.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
• Work with Engineering Project Managers, the owner, design team, and construction/installation
partners to review projects in the commissioning phase and troubleshoot as needed.
• Become a subject matter expert in the commissioning process, to support ongoing improvements
to processes and systems, and to train others.
• Leverage your expertise to trouble-shoot maintenance and system issues.
• Take a lead role in updating and refining the commissioning process based on new technology.
• Responsible for managing and leading the commissioning department.
• Manage and mentor commissioning staff.
• Assist owners and/or clients to develop owner project requirements.
• Develop and perform pre-functional checklists for MEP systems according to project scope.
• Create and perform final performance tests with applicable contractors according to the project
scope.
• Develop and maintain Master Deficiency Log for each commissioning project. Coordinate with
contractor, owner, architect, engineer, and construction manager(s) on steps to resolve
deficiencies.
• Coordinate with project team members internal and external to facilitate a successful
commissioning process on each project.
• Develop commissioning plan per project. Maintain, update, and distribute plan as required to
facilitate a successful commissioning project.
• Issue project status updates to the Client on defined regular intervals during the commissioning
process.
• Schedule and chair commissioning kick-off meeting and subsequent commissioning meetings for
each commissioning project.
• Prepare project specific commissioning specifications and deliver to project engineer for review
and inclusion.
• Perform step-by-step review and verification of all project commissioning procedures.
• Assist with training and growing the commissioning department.
• Assist in Request for Qualification project write-ups and participate in project interviews when
required.
• Assist with general business development efforts such as meeting new clients and maintaining
existing client relationships.
• Generate leads to pursue commissioning work.
• Assist in developing tools and templates for the Commissioning department.
• Planning, coordinating, and executing MEP job observation site visits.
• Writing and issuing job observation site visit reports.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering or related field or related industry experience.
• PE license, Commissioning Certification, Energy Management, or TAB certifications desired.
Commissioning certifications may include QCxP, CxA, or similar.
• 10-20+ years of related industry experience desired, including a minimum of 10+ years
commissioning experience.
• Project management expertise, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
• Business development experience a plus.
• Experience developing proposals a plus.
• Proficiency in client facing/client relationship/client management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and general computer use.
• Proficiency with construction management software such as Pro-core, PlanGrid, etc.
• Experience with commissioning software or ongoing commissioning tools.
• Experience using CxAlloy is a plus.
• Experience using Revu Bluebeam is a plus.
• Technical knowledge of MEP system design and operation, and experience with controls and
instrumentation (design or implementation).
• Electrical Experience a plus.
• Ability to climb ladders/stairs and to lift and carry loads in excess of 20 lbs. Able to be on a job site
for extended periods of time (8-10 hours).
• Familiar with the engineering submittal review and RFI processes.
• Familiar with MEP construction standards and guidelines.
• Ability to view drawings in AutoCAD and Revit.
• MEP Design experience.
Working conditions
This is a full-time position that may require travel within Texas.
Physical requirements
This role will require office work and site work to perform commissioning tasks. Ability to be active and
mobile on job sites is required. Ability to climb ladders/stairs and to lift and carry loads in excess of 20 lbs.

Direct reports
The Director of Commissioning may require reporting to the CEO directly or the Vice President of MEP
Department. At present we are looking at two to three direct reports.
