The Opportunity


We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Accountant to become an integral part of our client’s finance team. This is not just a number-crunching role; it is a strategic position where your expertise will directly influence their financial health and guide key business decisions. You will be responsible for the integrity of our financial operations and will play a pivotal role in shaping our financial future.


Key Responsibilities


Financial Management & Reporting:


  • Oversee the full cycle of accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and payroll processing.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with Canadian GAAP.
  • Conduct detailed financial analysis, including variance analysis, to explain financial results and trends to management.
  • Lead the year-end audit process, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors.


Budgeting & Strategic Planning:


  • Manage the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes in collaboration with department heads.
  • Provide insightful financial modeling and analysis to support strategic initiatives, business planning, and new projects.
  • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and provide actionable recommendations.


Compliance & Process Improvement:


  • Ensure strict compliance with all federal and provincial statutory reporting and tax requirements (GST/HST, PST, Corporate Tax).
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and leverage technology to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of financial operations.


Leadership & Collaboration:


  • Mentor and guide junior accounting staff, fostering an environment of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, sales, and administration, to provide financial guidance and support organizational goals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and financial institutions.


Qualifications & Experience


  • CPA designation (or in final stages of completion) is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) and Canadian tax regulations.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage 50) and high aptitude with Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
