Our client is an established manufacturing organization in the Concord, ON area seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to join their Human Resources team. This is a full-time, permanent position responsible for supporting the organization’s health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation, and helping maintain a strong culture of safety throughout the facility.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Health & Safety professional with manufacturing experience who enjoys being hands-on, working with employees and management at all levels, and taking ownership of safety-related projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and support the division's Occupational Health & Safety programs and initiatives.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and follow-up on corrective actions.
- Coordinate accident and incident investigations, ensuring appropriate documentation, follow-up, and closure.
- Participate in and support the Joint Health & Safety Committee, including meeting preparation, minutes, and follow-up actions.
- Identify workplace hazards and provide guidance on hazard recognition and corrective measures.
- Support ergonomic, environmental, and workplace health initiatives.
- Coordinate employee Health & Safety training, including WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout, TDG, and other required training and certifications.
- Deliver Health & Safety information during new employee orientations and employee meetings.
- Maintain and update Health & Safety policies, procedures, forms, communication materials, and training documentation.
- Coordinate and maintain Health & Safety audits, inspections, submissions, and regulatory documentation.
- Work with Maintenance and other departments to ensure Health & Safety compliance when new equipment or processes are introduced.
- Support risk assessments for machinery, equipment, and workplace tasks.
- Assist with hazardous chemical inventories and assessments.
- Support the facility's ergonomic program and heat stress prevention process.
- Manage contractor and visitor safety requirements.
- Maintain First Aid and PPE inventories and coordinate supplies as required.
- Support WSIB claims management and return-to-work programs, including required documentation and follow-up.
- Coordinate employee hearing testing and other workplace health initiatives.
- Assist with noise and air sampling where required.
- Liaise with corporate Health & Safety resources and external agencies as required.
- Participate in continuous improvement and workplace safety initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records while ensuring confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Minimum 2 years of Health & Safety experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a Health & Safety Coordinator or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, codes, and applicable industry standards.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, track progress, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees and management at all levels.
- Strong presentation skills and confidence delivering training or presentations to groups.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with a broader HR team.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Forms.
Education & Certifications
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health & Safety, or a related field.
- Joint Health & Safety Committee Certified Member certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Internal auditing experience is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with H&S management systems or platforms such as HSELinx, Sphera, or SharePoint is considered an asset.
