About the Role

We are seeking an innovative Wireless Network and IoT Systems Engineer to drive the development of next-generation networking and IoT solutions. This role requires experience/knowledge in wireless networking, embedded systems, and Linux-based development, with a focus on designing and implementing low-level WiFi protocols, mesh networking, and OpenWRT-based systems.


You will be involved in designing both hardware and software solutions, optimizing Linux kernels, and developing custom networking protocols. This role is based in Austin, Texas and may require periodic travel for hands-on work, collaboration, and testing in real-world environments.


We welcome candidates with limited formal experience but strong aptitude and substantial hobbyist knowledge.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize wireless networking protocols for IoT and embedded applications.
  • Implement custom networking stacks, ensuring low-latency and high-reliability performance.
  • Develop and customize OpenWRT firmware and Linux-based networking solutions.
  • Work with mesh networking and IoT communication protocols to enhance system efficiency.
  • Design and integrate hardware and software solutions, including writing device drivers and optimizing Linux kernels.
  • Develop and maintain low-level system software, ensuring robust security and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and deploy cutting-edge wireless systems.
  • Provide technical leadership, assisting with troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimization.


Required Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in wireless networking, including low-level WiFi protocol implementation.
  • Proven track record in networking stack development and designing custom protocols.
  • Deep knowledge of OpenWRT, Linux networking, and kernel customization.
  • Experience in hardware design for networking applications, including driver development and firmware engineering.
  • Strong coding skills in C, C++, Python, or other relevant languages for embedded and networking applications.
  • Expertise in mesh networking, IoT communications, and low-level system programming.
  • Ability to think creatively and solve complex challenges with innovative solutions.
