WHAT'S THE JOB?
We're partnering with a leading telecommunications business to find a Fixed/Transport Networks Engineer to join its Network team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working with large-scale fibre and transport networks, helping to design, build, and maintain the infrastructure that powers national and international connectivity.
You'll play a key role in supporting the reliability, performance, and future growth of the organisation's backbone, distribution, access, and FTTx networks, while working with cutting-edge fibre and transport technologies.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Support the design, deployment, and ongoing operation of national and international fibre and transport networks.
- Maintain accurate network records and infrastructure documentation using GIS and network management tools.
- Monitor network performance, analysing alarms, logs, and performance metrics to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Troubleshoot fibre and transport network faults to minimise downtime and maintain service quality.
- Collaborate with operational teams to deliver network deployments, upgrades, and optimisation projects.
- Develop and improve tools and processes that enhance network deployment and operational efficiency.
- Work closely with external vendors and service providers to ensure effective delivery of network services.
- Support budgeting, planning, and resource management for fixed network infrastructure projects.
- Contribute to the design of resilient, scalable, and high-availability network solutions.
- Stay up to date with emerging networking technologies and industry best practices.
- Carry out site visits and fieldwork to support installations, inspections, and network maintenance.
- Participate in an on-call rota and provide occasional out-of-hours support when required.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
- Hold an MQF Level 6 qualification in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of networking, telecommunications, and engineering principles.
- Bring strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Communicate effectively and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Work independently while taking ownership of projects and technical challenges.
- Be comfortable conducting fieldwork and visiting sites across Malta when required.
- Be willing to travel internationally from time to time.
- Demonstrate a proactive attitude with a genuine desire to learn and develop new technical skills.
- Be confident using IT systems and engineering tools relevant to network operations.
- Hold a valid Category B/B1 driving licence.
- Knowledge or experience of optical transport networks would be a distinct advantage.
