WHAT'S THE JOB?
We’re working with a well-established professional services firm to find a Accounting Team Leader to join its growing Client Accounting team.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a technically strong accountant who enjoys managing client relationships while developing and mentoring a team. You’ll oversee your own portfolio, act as a key technical reference point, and play an important role in maintaining service quality and team performance.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Manage and mentor junior team members, providing guidance, review, and technical support.
- Act as a key point of reference for complex accounting and VAT-related queries.
- Hold regular team catch-ups to monitor progress, workload, and development.
- Manage your own portfolio of clients, preparing management accounts and overseeing audit processes.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns for your client portfolio.
- Ensure all client and team deliverables meet statutory requirements and deadlines.
- Review financial statements, including complex disclosures.
- Review VAT returns and accounting work prepared by other team members.
- Support ongoing compliance monitoring within the accountancy function.
- Promote internal procedures, controls, and best practices across the team.
- Identify training needs and support the development and delivery of internal training sessions.
- Liaise with internal departments to gather information for financial reporting and statutory submissions.
- Escalate significant accounting issues or risks to management.
- Support management in ensuring deadlines are met across the wider team portfolio.
- Participate in client meetings and support junior team members in their client exposure.
- Assist with new business opportunities and client onboarding discussions.
- Contribute to team performance reviews and ongoing development processes.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
- Bring at least 2 years’ experience in a senior role within a client accounting environment.
- Be fully qualified through a recognised accountancy qualification.
- Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of client accounting, VAT, and financial reporting.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in written and spoken English.
- Use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and SAGE confidently.
- Handle sensitive financial information with integrity and professionalism.
- Work both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Stay highly organised, detail-focused, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Show strong problem-solving ability and a proactive mindset.
- Be comfortable working in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and supporting others.
