Vale Group, a nationwide specialized recruitment firm, has partnered with a company based in Lakeland, FL, who is actively searching for an experienced Sr Category Specialist to work onsite for an opportunity paying up to $90k annually, based on experience. This role reports to the Director of Procurement and is ideal for a strategic, analytical, and relationship-driven procurement professional focused on protein categories within a manufacturing environment. The position combines day-to-day purchasing execution with longer-term sourcing strategy, supporting spend optimization, supplier performance, and cost-saving initiatives while partnering closely with operations, finance, and external suppliers.

Requirements of the Sr Category Specialist:
● 5+ years of purchasing, sourcing, or procurement analytics experience
● Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or related field preferred
● Strong negotiation skills and supplier relationship management experience
● Solid understanding of procurement policies, purchasing procedures, and category strategy execution
● Intermediate to advanced Excel skills with strong data analysis capability
● Strong communication and cross-functional relationship-building abilities
● Experience supporting protein, food, ingredient, or other direct material categories preferred
● Ability to identify cost savings, manage supplier performance, and support change initiatives
Responsibilities of the Sr Category Specialist:
● Lead sourcing and purchasing activities across assigned protein-related categories
● Analyze spend trends and identify strategic sourcing opportunities that improve cost structure
● Negotiate pricing and manage supplier agreements to maximize overall value
● Build strong partnerships with suppliers, brokers, and internal stakeholders
● Drive cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives tied to category performance
● Monitor supplier KPIs and support corrective action efforts when needed
● Process internal requisitions and support day-to-day procurement execution
● Assist with cross-functional initiatives and help mentor junior staff
● Support as needed
