Vale Group, a nationwide specialized recruitment firm, has partnered with a company based near Long Island, NY, who is actively searching for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to work onsite for an opportunity paying $115,000 - $145,000 per year, based on experience. This position sits where engineering meets cost estimating, calling for a seasoned problem-solver who can turn complex technical packages from customers into accurate, competitive quotes for aerospace and defense hardware. Success hinges on deep know-how spanning composites, sheet metal work, bonding, machining and welding, paired with sharp analytical instincts. Current or recent Aerospace/Aviation experience is required.


Requirements of the Mechanical Engineer:

● Advanced command of high-precision production processes, with the capacity to translate engineering data into practical build strategies

● Hands-on fluency across sheet metal forming, composite layup, adhesive bonding, precision machining and welding

● Practical grasp of lean thinking and automation, including the savings each can unlock

● Skill with parametric pricing models to cross-check and validate bid figures

● Comfort reading technical drawings, specifications, 3D models and component listings

● 10+ years in mechanical or manufacturing engineering roles of increasing responsibility, ideally within aerospace or aviation

● Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field; extensive equivalent shop-floor and engineering experience will be considered in lieu

● Advanced Excel modeling for cost build-ups

● Exposure to defense contracting, GD&T fluency, or Six Sigma certification is a plus

● Meticulous accuracy and composure when working to tight proposal deadlines

● CATIA proficiency (required); ERP or MRP system experience (preferred)


Responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer:

● Review customer quote requests and supporting technical data to determine how each item will be built and which materials it demands

● Compile detailed, line-by-line parts breakdowns covering each quoted assembly

● Calculate fabrication and assembly labor, raw material, purchased component, tooling and specialty process costs with the firm's in-house estimating workbooks

● Outline production plans and conceptual tooling layouts for end-stage assembly

● Revise and sharpen estimates whenever customer requirements or program details evolve

● Cross-check completed estimates for accuracy and consistency before they go out the door

● Recommend smarter build approaches that trim production cost and sharpen bid competitiveness

● Partner with proposal leadership and cross-functional teams to hit quote due dates

● Support as needed.
