Vale Group, a nationwide specialized recruitment firm, has partnered with a company based in Matthews, NC, who is actively searching for an experienced Vice President of Construction to work onsite for an opportunity paying $160,000 to $200,000 base annually, based on experience. This is the senior operational seat over a specialty trade contractor's construction division, reporting directly to the president and sitting on the executive team with full accountability for division margin, staffing levels, schedule performance, safety results, and client retention. The person hired will oversee a portfolio of commercial, institutional, and industrial builds, guiding project executives and senior managers from award through final closeout. Candidates should bring a long run of progressive leadership inside a mechanical, electrical, or plumbing contractor, paired with the financial fluency to defend forecasts, backlog, and cash position in front of ownership.

Requirements of the Vice President of Construction:

● Fifteen or more years of increasingly senior roles in the built environment, with a documented history of delivering complex work from award through turnover

● Seven to ten years spent in a leadership or executive capacity directing construction operations

● Career foundation rooted in project management, ideally shaped inside an MEP or comparable specialty trade organization (MEP reflected in a prior title is strongly preferred)

● Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a comparable discipline preferred

● Proven command of job costing, forecasting, cash position, contract administration, change management, and exposure mitigation

● Track record guiding several concurrent teams and sizable portfolios; oversight of yearly construction volume above $50 million preferred

● Working fluency with Procore, Vista, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with Kojo, BIM/VDC platforms, and reporting dashboards is a plus

● Valid driver's license and willingness to move between the main office, active sites, and customer locations

Responsibilities of the Vice President of Construction:

● Direct the entire project delivery group, setting goals, performance standards, and clear lines of accountability

● Own division profitability, reviewing forecasts, work in progress, backlog, billing cadence, change order capture, and collections

● Confirm that every job runs safely, holds its dates, protects its budget, and satisfies contract terms from turnover through closeout

● Coach and grow project executives, senior managers, and support staff while building a bench for future leadership needs

● Serve as the executive point of contact for owners, developers, general contractors, engineers, and design partners

● Forecast staffing demand against backlog and allocate labor across field crews, prefabrication, VDC, and office teams

● Partner with estimating and preconstruction on pursuit strategy, scope review, and exposure assessment

● Champion safety initiatives alongside safety leadership and resolve claims, disputes, and other high-exposure matters

● Lead adoption of improved workflows, technology, and operating standards across the department

● Support as needed
