Vale Group is actively searching for an experienced Aviation Software Engineer to work remote for an opportunity paying up to $180,000, based on experience. This team builds with an AI-assisted development model, where engineers guide AI coding agents with clear context and then own the review and release of the resulting code. A background in aviation software is key. Two openings are available, with preference for candidates near NYC, though East Coast applicants will be considered.
Requirements of the Aviation Software Engineer:
● Prior experience building aviation software, such as maintenance, compliance, MRO, or fleet and engine data applications strongly preferred
● Practical, day-to-day use of AI coding agents in production development
● Experience working in an AI-assisted development lifecycle, framing context and requirements for AI agents and submitting their output as pull requests
● Solid grasp of modern SDLC practices, including CI/CD build and release pipelines
● Able to make an impact from day one with minimal ramp-up
● 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
● Highly adaptable, with a habit of picking up new tools and workflows quickly as they evolve
● Knowledge of aircraft maintenance, airworthiness, or regulatory compliance concepts is a plus
● Sharp review skills, with the ability to evaluate change summaries and catch issues before code moves to deployment
● Software: Claude Code (required); OpenAI Codex and Playwright (preferred)
● Able to travel domestically 10-15% of the time, with heavier travel expected during the first 30-60 days
Responsibilities of the Aviation Software Engineer:
● Develop and enhance features for flagship aviation software platforms using an AI-assisted workflow
● Translate business and technical requirements into clear direction for AI coding agents
● Produce pull requests with concise summaries of each change for team review
● Review teammates' submissions and approve work for build and deployment
● Own code quality from initial requirement through release
● Contribute to automated testing, including end-to-end test coverage
● Help refine the team's AI-driven development practices as tools and standards evolve
● Collaborate with engineering peers across the broader product portfolio
● Support as needed
