Vale Group, a nationwide specialized recruitment firm, has partnered with a company based in Matthews, NC, who is actively searching for an experienced Commercial Project Engineer to work onsite for an opportunity paying up to $85,000 per year, based on experience. This role supports commercial plumbing projects from kickoff through closeout, managing submittals, RFIs, procurement tracking, cost monitoring, and coordination among field crews, prime contractors, and owners. The right fit is organized, numbers-minded, and equally comfortable at a desk or out in the field.
Requirements of the Commercial Project Engineer:
● Cost-estimating fundamentals, including turning scope into labor, material, and equipment figures
● Strong command of RFI and submittal workflows from intake through resolution
● Skilled at keeping project records organized, from contracts to inspection logs and insurance certificates
● Comfortable with construction math, budgeting, and comparing actual spending to the original bid
● Clear, professional written and spoken communication with crews, vendors, clients, and leadership
● Composed and solution-oriented when schedules tighten or conditions shift
● Working knowledge of safety practices on active construction sites.
● 2+ years of experience in project engineering, coordination, or support within commercial plumbing, mechanical, or general construction
● Secondary-school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred, with comparable field experience considered in lieu of a degree
● Active driving license and dependable transportation to reach project sites
● Strong Excel abilities for cost tracking, logs, and reporting
● Plus: OSHA 10 card, Bluebeam experience, or prior exposure to commissioning and closeout processes
● Accurate interpretation of plumbing and mechanical drawings, plans, and specifications
● Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office preferred, along with comfort learning new project management platforms
Responsibilities of the Commercial Project Engineer:
● Build and manage a tracking system for purchase orders, shipments, and delivery scheduling
● Review, route, and monitor submittals and RFIs from receipt through closure, keeping logs current
● Price, develop, and negotiate scope change requests, securing written client approval before work begins
● Record material, equipment, labor, and subcontractor costs and measure them against the original budget
● Coordinate QA/QC checks, system testing logs, and commissioning activities, including start-ups and checklists
● Assist with worker badging and site access credentials, and support status reporting for prime contractors and owners
● Coordinate leased machinery and tool pickups, returns, and usage records, while keeping the team working from the latest plan revisions
● Perform routine field walk-throughs, join project meetings when called upon, and hold kickoff and closeout huddles with assigned plumbing crews
● Confirm permits are secured and inspections are booked promptly, while serving as the go-between for clients, inspectors, and supply partners
