National Sales Manager/Director

United States (Remote) | Full Time


Nexagen Search is representing a pharmaceutical company that is hiring a National Sales Director. This is a key commercial leadership role reporting directly to the CEO and will for be responsible for leading a team of field-based sales reps (15) across the United States. This individual will oversee national sales efforts for GI-focused therapeutic brands, driving performance, execution, and growth across the field organization.


Summary:

The National Sales Director is a senior field leadership role responsible for leading, coaching, and managing a national sales organization supporting GI-focused therapeutic brands. This individual will drive sales execution through people leadership, performance management, territory optimization, and operational discipline, while partnering closely with Executive Leadership, Marketing, and other Medical Affairs. This role is not a direct-selling position; success is achieved through building, developing, and enabling a high-performing field sales team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a national field sales team to achieve and exceed revenue and performance objectives
  • Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing field coaching and feedback
  • Drive accountability through performance management, goal setting, and development planning
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and training of new sales team members in partnership with HR and Executive Leadership.
  • Translate commercial strategy into consistent and effective field execution across territories
  • Monitor sales performance, call activity, and territory effectiveness; implement corrective action plans as needed
  • Ensure accurate forecasting, CRM adoption, and reporting discipline
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing to ensure field readiness for campaigns, launches, and national meetings
  • Support medical and commercial congress strategy, including pre- and post-meeting field execution
  • Align field execution with Market Access strategy in partnership with Executive Leadership
  • Manage field travel and operating expenses within approved budgets
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, competitive dynamics, and the evolving GI therapeutic landscape


Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct management of a national field sales team (currently 15 reps)

Travel Requirements: Extensive travel required. ~50% overnight travel expected.


Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years of pharmaceutical sales experience, including 2+ years in a people management role leading a team of field-based sales reps. 5+ years of management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading, coaching, and developing field sales teams
  • Experience in specialty pharma and physician-focused markets preferred; GI experience strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance data and drive action
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence without direct authority
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Comfortable operating in a growth-stage, entrepreneurial environment
