Job Summary:

The Battery Electromechanical Engineer is responsible for the development and release of key electromechanical subsystems of the Battery Pack. This role is responsible for specifying, characterizing, and working with cross functional teams to integrate these subsystems and components into the High Voltage Battery System. 

Responsibilities:

·        Owns the selection, development, and integration of high voltage electrical power distribution components.

·        Maintains a high level of expertise in power switching components, current limiting devices and sensing electronics, including contactors, relays, fuses, FETs, current sensors, etc.

·        Maintains a high level of familiarity with mechanical packaging and fabrication techniques, including injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, additive manufacturing, etc.

·        Design and develop high voltage, high current interfaces between electromechanical components (e.g. busbars, cabling). Execution of high voltage sensing circuitry and terminations.

·        Evaluate supplier information, specifications, and validation data to ensure the selection of the best suppliers.

·        Work closely with the component suppliers to qualify candidate components to meet sub-system, performance, and cost targets. Release components into ABS PDM system.

·        Seek innovative opportunities to develop best-in-world solutions. Develop roadmaps to evaluate and implement these solutions.

·        Design, set up, and conduct internal tests to confirm specifications, resolving any issues that may arise.

·        Work closely with Battery Management System (BMS) and Systems Engineering teams to develop control strategies and diagnostics for responsible components.

·        Work closely with manufacturing engineering to determine the most cost-effective and highest quality solutions.

·        Work closely with the prototype and production teams to troubleshoot any issues that arise with product components and assemblies.

·        Key contributor to mechanical & electrical system DVP&Rs for integration into or support of overall system DVP&Rs.

·        Contributes to team growth and accountability by completing projects in a professional, collaborative, and timely manner.

·        Adhere to federal and state regulations.

·        Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures.

·        Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

  Position Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree.

·        Minimum of one (1) year of experience in automotive or similar product design and development.

·        Demonstrated understanding of electrical system development principles.

·        Effective communicator, capable of concisely presenting highly technical test data to internal and external customers, as well as effectively communicating with suppliers.

·        Familiar with lab procedures and safety protocols.

·        Well-versed in automotive specifications.

·        Experienced with the handling of high voltage lithium-ion battery systems.

·        Educated on common automotive & industry standards SAE, ASME, and IEE.

·        Familiar with the product design process.

·        Self-motivated problem solver; pays attention to the details. Exemplifies self-leadership.

·        Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

·        The person in this position needs to occasionally move about in industrial environments and on uneven terrain. 

·        Works in a temperature-controlled office environment, with occasional work in outdoor weather conditions, and in industrial environments. 

·        The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud.
