Scrum Master - Upton, NY


About the Opportunity:

You’ll play a key role in supporting research initiatives that drive the mission of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. Your contributions will help enable discoveries in nuclear and particle physics, energy and climate sciences, quantum information science, artificial intelligence, and national security.

As Scrum Master, you’ll work closely with software development teams, technical leaders, and business partners to deliver high-impact applications—both local and cloud-based—that power scientific breakthroughs. You’ll champion Agile principles, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and help teams achieve their highest potential.


Key Responsibilities:

· Serve as a servant leader and Agile coach for one or more Scrum Teams.

· Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, and Retrospectives.

· Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to ensure backlogs are prioritized and well-groomed.

· Track and report on Agile metrics (e.g., burn-down, velocity) to support team performance and transparency.

· Guide teams in applying Agile thinking to improve effectiveness and deliver quality software solutions.

· Identify opportunities to enhance processes and drive continuous improvement across the organization.

· Work closely with IT leadership and peers to advance Agile practices and application strategy.

· Maintain a continuous learning mindset, staying current with emerging technologies and best practices.


What We’re Looking For:

· Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field.

· At least 8 years of relevant experience in software development, IT project management, or Agile leadership.

· Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe.

· Hands-on experience with tools like Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar.

· Familiarity with technologies including ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework, IIS, Git.

· Understanding of CI/CD concepts and tooling, plus relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server).

· Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and relationship management skills.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

· Professional presence and a proven record of building strong partnerships with stakeholders.

· Commitment to continuous improvement and learning.


Preferred Qualifications:

· Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or equivalent Agile certification.

· Experience with Azure DevOps and cloud-first architecture.

· Background in developing and communicating both functional and technical strategy.


Additional Information:

· Eligibility: U.S. Citizens Only.

Due to the nature of the work and government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this position.

· Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

· Salary range: $120,000 – $200,050 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
