Mission for the Role

Own the estimate on assigned small-to-mid scope bids, from site visit and takeoff through priced, leveled, submission-ready proposals, and support the Preconstruction team on larger pursuits. Deliver accurate, on-time pricing that strengthens C/Sharpe's win rate and margin, while building early exposure to bid/no-bid decisions, subcontractor relationships, and pricing strategy that drive company growth and market position.

Outcomes

1. Complete document reviews and building component takeoffs with a 95%+ accuracy rate compared to senior estimator checks.
2. Own the estimate on assigned small-to-mid scope bids, covering scope, quantities, labor, materials, equipment, general conditions, overhead and markup, with no missed scope that would become a change order. First solo estimate by day 60; carrying a full bid load by day 180.
3. Submit complete, competitive bids that meet 100% of client and internal deadlines, with clear scope, inclusions, exclusions and assumptions.
4. Solicit, follow up on and level subcontractor and vendor quotes on every bid, and keep the vendor database current.
5. Complete project site reviews and pre-bid site visits with accurate notes and deliverables for at least 90% of assigned projects.
6. Build initial project files and cost databases within 48 hours of assignment.
7. Hand off awarded estimates to Operations within 5 business days, and join win/loss reviews to learn from every bid.
8. Identify cost-saving opportunities, vendor leverage points and market trends that inform long-term estimating strategy, with at least one documented recommendation per month from day 90.

Required Experience & Skills

• Education: High school diploma required; relevant college coursework or degree preferred.
• Industry Experience: 1 to 3 years in estimating, and 3 to 5 years overall in construction. Hands-on takeoff and pricing experience is required.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office; Excel is essential.
• Knowledge of cost control methods and pricing strategies.
• Excellent negotiation skills for supplier and contractor relations.
• Site Work: Willing to conduct in-person site visits and travel to pre-bid walks.

Preferred Experience

• Four-year college degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field.
• Experience using Bluebeam and Buildr.
• Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
• Exposure to strategic pricing, subcontractor selection and bid/no-bid decision frameworks.

What This Role Is Not

• Not a data-entry or takeoff-only seat. You will own bids, not just measure for someone else.
• Not a desk job. Site visits and pre-bid walks are part of the work.
• Not a role for someone who wants to be left alone with the number. Every estimate gets a senior review, and you are expected to want it.
• Not a fixed ceiling. It is the entry to a lead estimator and preconstruction path.
