Whole House Designer (Remote)

Overview

An established, full-service lumberyard is seeking an experienced Whole House Designer to support continued growth and customer demand. This is a fully remote position focused on producing complete structural framing design packages, including roof trusses, floor trusses, and wall panels, with a strong preference for candidates familiar with Engineered Wood Products (EWP).

This role works closely with sales, project management, and customers to deliver accurate, buildable designs that align with architectural plans, local codes, and project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Design complete whole-house framing packages, including:
• Roof trusses
• Floor trusses
• Wall panels
• Interpret architectural and structural plans, specifications, and building codes
• Incorporate EWP solutions (I-joists, LVL, PSL, glulam, etc.) into designs when appropriate
• Coordinate with sales, estimators, and customers to ensure design accuracy and constructability
• Revise designs based on plan changes, field conditions, or customer feedback
• Ensure designs meet engineering standards, manufacturer guidelines, and local jurisdiction requirements
• Maintain organized project documentation and meet required turnaround times
• Provide technical support to internal teams and customers as needed

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing roof and floor trusses
• Experience with wall panel design strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of Engineered Wood Products (EWP)
• Proficiency with industry-standard design software (MiTek, Alpine, or similar)
• Strong understanding of residential framing methods and building codes
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a remote environment
• Clear communication skills and attention to detail

Preferred Experience

• Whole house / full framing package design experience
• Background working with a lumberyard, component manufacturer, or building materials supplier
• Experience supporting custom homes, production builders, or multifamily projects
