An established, privately held building materials supplier in the Southeast with decades of industry experience is seeking an Engineered Wood Products (EWP) Designer / Lumber Estimator to support its growing builder and contractor customer base.

This role combines EWP floor system design with estimating lumber framing packages, making it an ideal opportunity for someone who understands both the technical design side and the material takeoff side of residential construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design engineered wood floor systems using I-joists, LVL, LSL, rim board, and other structural components
• Review architectural and structural plans to determine load paths and proper system design
• Produce layout drawings, placement plans, and detailed material lists
• Estimate lumber framing packages including dimensional lumber, beams, and associated framing materials
• Work closely with outside sales representatives and contractors to ensure accurate bids and material packages
• Optimize designs and material lists for efficiency, structural performance, and cost effectiveness
• Respond to revisions and changes to keep projects moving on schedule
• Provide technical support to internal teams and builder customers

Qualifications

• 3+ years of EWP design experience
• Experience estimating lumber framing packages from construction plans
• Proficiency with EWP design software
• Strong understanding of residential framing methods and structural load concepts
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects

Preferred Background

• Experience working for a lumberyard, dealer, or building materials distributor
• Familiarity with major engineered wood manufacturers
• Knowledge of single-family, custom home, and light multifamily construction
• Strong communication skills when working with builders and internal teams
