Summary

As a Heavy Civil Estimator, you will play a critical role in preparing accurate and competitive bids for complex infrastructure projects. You’ll analyze blueprints, specifications, and proposals to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop cost estimates for labor, material, and equipment. By soliciting and reviewing subcontractor and vendor quotes, you’ll ensure comprehensive scope coverage and competitive value. You will also assess project risks and collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop winning strategies. Success in this role requires proficiency with industry-standard estimating software, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of heavy civil construction.

 

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, and proposals to prepare accurate time, cost, and labor estimates.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates and identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Solicit and review bids from subcontractors and suppliers for competitive pricing.
  • Conduct risk and opportunity assessments to ensure reliable estimates.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify scope and requirements.
  • Prepare and present detailed budgets, cost estimates, and proposals to stakeholders.
  • Utilize and refine specialized estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement in estimating processes to support quality and innovation.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, with 5–10 years of industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with alternative delivery projects such as CMAR and Design-Build (preferred, not required).
  • Proven background in heavy civil construction—earthwork, concrete, and utilities.
  • Strong ability to analyze project plans, specs, and costs to deliver accurate, competitive estimates.
  • Proficiency with advanced estimating and project management software.
  • Clear communication skills and collaborative approach with project teams and clients.
  • Detail-driven mindset with a focus on accuracy and completeness.
