Position Summary

The Director of Land Planning will spearhead all land planning initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance and integrating client needs with strategic vision. Collaborating across disciplines, this role drives projects from conceptual planning through execution, while contributing to the company’s growth through business development.


Key Responsibilities


Project Leadership- Lead multidisciplinary teams in land development and civil engineering, delivering projects on time and budget.

Compliance & Permitting- Manage adherence to zoning ordinances, environmental regulations, and municipal engineering standards.

Strategic Planning- Develop land-use strategies and conceptual site designs; guide coordination with engineering, landscape architecture, and environmental teams.

Business Development- Identify and pursue new opportunities; lead proposal writing and client presentations to expand the project portfolio.

Team Management- Mentor engineers, planners, designers, and support staff; nurture a collaborative, high-performance culture.

Client Management- Build and sustain client relationships; align project outcomes with client objectives and enhance satisfaction.

Technical Expertise- Provide oversight in site planning, grading, drainage, infrastructure layout, and related civil engineering disciplines.

Budget & Schedule Management- Develop and monitor project budgets and schedules; optimize resource allocation.

Contractor Oversight- Lead selection and oversight of contractors/subconsultants; ensure quality control.

Communication & Presentation- Effectively convey technical ideas and project status to clients, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: 10+ years in land planning within a civil/environmental engineering context, including leadership of land development projects.
  • Knowledge: Strong grasp of Arizona zoning, permitting, environmental regulations, and municipal engineering. Prior experience with desert/municipal land development projects is preferred.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor staff.
  • Business Acumen: Track record of winning projects, forging client relationships, and guiding proposals.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in land-use planning, grading/drainage design, infrastructure layouts, CAD/GIS tools, and project delivery software.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication; skilled at presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Certifications (preferred): Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Arizona, AICP, LEED, or related credentials.
