Software Engineer (Backend)

About the Job

This role is designed for an experienced backend engineer who thrives in fast-moving, high-ownership environments. You’ll build production-grade systems that power next-generation real-time user research technology. This is an onsite position with an expectation of 80–100% in-office work.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Design, develop, and optimize backend services, APIs, and real-time data processing systems.

• Build and scale infrastructure that handles real-time streaming, analysis, and classification.

• Implement and refine in-house Large Language Model capabilities.

• Lead project lifecycles from concept through production deployment.

• Partner directly with founders on technical strategy and product direction.

• Engage with users to understand needs and continuously improve core functionality.

What You’ll Need:

• 3–10 years of professional software engineering experience building production-grade backend systems

• Strong proficiency with Python

• Experience with Django

• Extensive knowledge of Postgres or SQL databases

• Experience deploying and managing services on AWS

• Ability to operate with high ownership in ambiguous, fast-paced environments

• Willingness to work 80–100% onsite in San Francisco
