Mechanical Engineer

Full-time | On-site | Redwood City, CA

About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in mechanical design, prototyping, and real-world system integration.

You’ll be responsible for transforming mission-driven requirements into functional, ruggedized prototypes that perform under demanding conditions.

This is an opportunity to join a high-impact engineering team developing advanced hardware systems at the intersection of mechanics, fluidics, and electronics — built for reliability, precision, and field performance.

What You’ll Do

  • Design & Develop: Create compact, ruggedized subsystems, housings, and rigs in CAD optimized for reliability under shock, vibration, and environmental stress.

  • Prototype & Fabricate: Rapidly prototype components using CNC machining, 3D printing, vacuum/pressure forming, laser cutting, and other fabrication methods.

  • Integrate Fluidic Systems: Design and assemble microfluidic and airflow subsystems, including manifolds, channels, valves, pumps, and sealing interfaces.

  • Build Mechanical Assemblies: Develop linkages, actuation rigs, and gear trains that interface seamlessly with electromechanical and thermal systems.

  • Engineer for Production: Apply DFM/DFA principles, tolerance analysis, and validation testing to ensure designs scale efficiently from prototype to production.

  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with electrical and systems engineers to integrate mechanical, thermal, and fluidic elements into cohesive assemblies.

  • Test & Iterate: Travel for live demonstrations, field testing, and stress validation, capturing operator feedback to refine designs through rapid iteration.

Who You Are

  • Proven experience in mechanical design, prototyping, and fabrication.

  • Proficient in CAD/CAM tools (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) and familiar with fabrication processes such as CNC machining, 3D printing, and vacuum forming.

  • Hands-on experience with microfluidic systems, thermal management, or MIL-STD ruggedized design is a plus.

  • Strong practical understanding of materials science, mechanical tolerancing, and environmental design.

  • Thrive in fast-paced, hands-on engineering environments where iteration and testing drive progress.

Tech Stack

  • CAD/CAM: Fusion 360, SolidWorks

  • Fabrication: CNC machining (Tormach PathPilot), 3D printing (FDM/SLA), vacuum/pressure forming, laser cutting

  • Systems: Microfluidics (SMA/solenoid valves, peristaltic & piezoelectric pumps, IDEX-style connectors), CFD analysis

  • Materials: PEEK, PTFE, composites, aluminum alloys, stainless steels

Work Environment

  • Location: On-site in Redwood City, CA

  • Schedule: Full-time, in-person collaboration required

  • Culture: Small, mission-focused team that values craftsmanship, speed, and end-to-end ownership

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $120K–$150K

  • Equity: Significant ownership stake

  • Benefits: Comprehensive coverage, flexible PTO, and opportunities to work on cutting-edge, real-world engineering challenges
