You’ll work across embedded systems, backend infrastructure, and site reliability engineering—designing monitoring pipelines, automation, and diagnostic tools that keep hundreds of devices online and performing reliably.

This is a remote-first role (North America) with ~20% travel for deployments and on-site debugging.

What’s in it for you?

  • $160,000 – $190,000 salary

  • Health insurance – 85% covered for employees, 50% for dependents

  • Unlimited PTO (with a minimum of 10 days per year)

  • Home office setup – laptop + equipment provided

  • Remote-first flexibility – work wherever you’re happiest and most productive

  • Team off-sites ~2x per year (past destinations include Tahoe, Puerto Vallarta, San Diego, Austin)

  • Room to grow – be part of a foundational team scaling rapidly over the next few years

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design and implement systems to monitor and improve IoT device health at scale

  • Build internal tools for device setup, QA automation, and fleet observability

  • Develop backend services for device integration, calibration, and reliability improvements

  • Debug distributed environments using logs, telemetry, and remote diagnostics

  • Conduct fleet-wide health assessments and recommend firmware or deployment improvements

  • Collaborate with operations and hardware teams to drive process and architectural improvements

  • Maintain troubleshooting guides and playbooks to streamline deployments

  • Travel as needed (~20%) for QA, deployments, and on-site support

What you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience

  • Experience managing distributed Linux-based hardware or IoT fleets

  • Proficiency in Python and SQL; C++ a plus

  • Strong background with Linux systems (dmesg, journalctl, ip, systemd, etc.)

  • Familiarity with observability tools (DataDog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana)

  • Wireless connectivity experience (cellular, WiFi, WiFi HaLow, etc.)

  • Proven ability to build internal tooling and monitoring platforms

  • Strong communication skills and ability to write clear reports and guides

  • Self-starter mentality with willingness to travel up to 20%
