Founding ML Engineer

$175K – $250K + Equity (1 – 2%)
About the Role
We’re looking for a Founding Machine Learning Engineer to build and scale the real-time voice model infrastructure that powers emotionally intelligent AI voice systems.
In this role, you’ll design ultra-low-latency inference pipelines, optimize performance at scale, and develop expressive voice models that respond naturally and adaptively to human conversation.
You’ll work directly with the founding team to shape product direction, architecture, and the technical foundation of a next-generation conversational AI platform—powering experiences across therapy, coaching, companionship, and gaming.
What You’ll Do
- Architect and scale real-time model inference systems for high-fidelity voice experiences.
- Fine-tune and optimize transformer-based speech and emotion models for low latency.
- Design efficient data pipelines and infrastructure for training and deployment.
- Collaborate with founders on product direction, user feedback loops, and R&D strategy.
- Drive research into emotional expression, multimodal context, and memory for long-term interactions.
What You Bring
- Strong background in deep learning and speech synthesis (e.g., PyTorch, CUDA).
- Experience building or optimizing real-time inference systems.
- Familiarity with fine-tuning transformer or diffusion-based voice models.
- Experience with data engineering, GPU acceleration, and model optimization.
- Desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on startup environment with high ownership.
Work Setup
🏢 Location: On-site in San Francisco (flexible time off, ~60-hour weeks typical)
💰 Compensation: $175K – $250K + 1–2% equity
