Job Title: Glassblower/Senior Gaffer

Location: Luxury Resort, Maldives

Our resort is dedicated to offering unique guest experiences, including hands-on glass-blowing workshops where guests create their own pieces. All glass used in these workshops is upcycled from resort waste such as wine and beer bottles, promoting sustainability in every aspect of the resort’s operations.


Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Glassblower to join our resort team and enhance our guest experience by leading glass-blowing workshops and creating bespoke glass pieces. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in glass-blowing, excellent communication skills, and a passion for sustainability and artistry in a luxury hospitality setting.


Key Responsibilities:


Lead glass-blowing experiences for resort guests, guiding them in creating their own pieces in a fun, engaging manner.

Upcycle used glass materials from the resort, such as wine and beer bottles, into unique artworks and products.


Supervising 4-5 team members in the studio. 


● Work on individual glass art projects, ensuring high quality and innovation.

● Ensure an organised and clean studio, cold shop and grounds

● Checking specifications and aesthetics of made works to keep continuity and high-quality standards.

● Coldworking glass works which are then checked and cleaned before it is to be sold/stored in the shop/gallery.

● Ensure orders are completed in a reasonable amount of time.

● Oversee glassblowing activities in the studio, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and artistic standards.

● Collaborate with junior glassblowers, providing guidance and feedback.

● Engage with customers and potential clients who visit the studio.

● Packing of all glassworks.

● Sanitisation of all tools and workplace.

● Setting up the studio for the day's activities.

● Deliver satisfaction on guest classes and interactions.

● Cleaning/storing of studio tools and other equipment at the end of the day.

● Checking/changing on gas supply throughout the day.

● Prototyping new works.

● Teaching for the studio team, guests and hosts.

● Organizing daily operations and scheduling.

● Coordinating the glass team.

● Meet and greet guests.

● Tell the Art & Glass Soneva story.

● Ensuring guest lesson glass is labeled and organised.

● Recording daily production.

● Setting of equipment programs


Workday :


The typical shift is 9 am till 6 pm. 1 day off per week. 


Accommodation and staff areas

The Senior Gaffer/Glassblower will have own studio flat. 

The accommodation is a studio, bed, couch, writing desk, tv, on-suite bathroom, aircon. The staff accommodation is a 5 min walk to the Studio, they provide a bicycle. The staff accommodation complex has a common area if you want to do your own cooking,  a private beach for the staff, well-equipped gym, billiards table. volleyball ect... They have very good activities program for the staff, including pilates, acupuncture, snorkelling, boot camp, ect..

Meals: 

The meals are very good, covering tastes of 40 nationalities. Buffet. 


Getting off the island :

In addition to the annual return flight provided for vacation, a return round trip air ticket every month from the resort to the Main island Male, so you can get off the island once a month. 


Requirements


  • Tertiary qualification in Glass-blowing, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in glass-blowing.
  • Strong technical background and knowledge of glass-blowing techniques and industry practices.
  • Experience in gaffer work and assisting other gaffers in large-scale projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with guests in a high-end, luxury hospitality environment.
  • Keen eye for detail and a passion for continuous learning and artistic development.
  • Physically fit with strong mobility and the ability to work in challenging, tropical conditions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a collaborative approach to working within a diverse team.


Package:


  • Basic salary of $2200 USD net per month + plus service charge which averages around $900 USD monthly, total earnings around $3100 USD per month. Tax Free
