SUPERINTENDENT - WATER / WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS

Richmond, VA (Richmond to Virginia Beach corridor) | Full-time, direct hire

Schedule: Full-time, on site, travel within the region as projects require

Pay: Up to $180,000 per year depending on experience

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

A self-performing heavy civil general contractor with a large water and wastewater treatment plant portfolio across the Southeast is adding a Superintendent to its Civil and Environmental division. This is a self-perform shop: the company runs its own concrete crews, heavy equipment operators, pipe crews and electricians rather than subcontracting the physical work. You will coordinate the planning, scheduling and construction of treatment plant projects alongside the Project Manager and General Superintendent, and own safety, schedule, budget and quality in the field.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Safety

- Examine and inspect work progress, equipment and the construction site to verify safe conditions and OSHA compliance

- Enforce company safety protocols and lead by example on a Safety First culture

- Coordinate crane and heavy equipment operations per company policy

- Ensure Pre-Task Planning is completed by every crew, every day

Project execution and paperwork

- Schedule and coordinate self-performed crews and subcontractors

- Review submittals, plans and specifications; communicate scope to the field

- Develop and maintain the weekly two-week look-ahead schedule

- Manage equipment needs and rental periods

- Calculate concrete quantities and coordinate supplier scheduling

- Order materials and tools ahead of need

Personnel

- Assess labor requirements and recommend hiring

- Train, coach and give feedback to foremen and craft employees

- Hold foremen accountable for production, quality and safety

Quality and production

- Address quality and production issues immediately

- Inspect work with supervisory personnel and direct corrections

- Track equipment and labor utilization against budget and report cost status

WHAT YOU NEED

- Experience as a Superintendent on water or wastewater treatment plant construction with a self-performing general contractor (a firm that employed its own concrete, equipment and electrical crews). This is a hard requirement.

- Must have performed the Superintendent role itself; this is not a step-up position for a foreman or assistant superintendent

- Four or more years of water/wastewater construction experience, or eight or more years of related heavy civil construction experience

- Working knowledge of construction technology, equipment and methods

- Excellent communication, organization, motivation and leadership skills

- Valid, non-restrictive driver's license and own transportation to the job site

- Willingness to travel within the region, and occasionally multi-state, as projects require

- 18 years of age or older, able to pass a drug test, legally eligible to work in the US

Active heavy civil construction sites: treatment plants, concrete structures, deep excavations, process piping and heavy equipment. Outdoor work in all weather. Projects located anywhere in the Richmond to Virginia Beach corridor.
